Yeah all the helicopters I have looked at definately take only 6 so we would need to get 2!!! I am a bit annoyed that some of the other people going with us just won't book before, they are adament that we will get a better deal out there with the coupon books that you get in the hotels etc!!! I totally disagree especially as there are so 8 of us and we have specific trip in mind!!

    1. I don't want to go there and be disappointed that we can't do the trip that we want to do
    2. I don't want to go out there and end up paying more

The trip we have in mind is the Champagne Picnic to the West Rim (yes I know that the South Rim is the "proper" Grand Canyon but we definately all want to go by helicopter) and the price on viator.com for this trip is only £173.97. Seems like an absolute bargain to me????????????????

I am sorry if I seem rude but you are more than daft thinking that going by helicopter all the way and having a "Champagne" picnic is a worthy trade off against the going to the South Rim. I have been to both please learn from my mistake the West Rim is quite frankly crap and you could not pay me £170 to waste one of my Vegas days there. The West Rim is not the Grand Canyon its like going to Benidorm and thinking you have been to Spain or Calais and thinking you have been to France, maybe this is why the others dont want to book. I have posted my pictures of both Rims fuirther up this thread and you can see the difference. It is not a bargain !!!

Again I am sorry if I seem rude but I dont want you to waste your time and your money and I am pretty certain that I am right about this.
Its Vegas time -no longer :T a five year old has changed Vegas time to Orlando time
  • what page are your photos on please sew109 i'd love to take a look :D

    Hi Sew

I know exactly what you are saying, and I realise that the South Rim is better to do, however when we booked to go to Vegas everyone decided that we were going to do a Helicopter trip to GC and I am finding it hard enough to convince the others to book before we go that I have no chance in trying to convince them that we should go to the South Rim and then maybe get a helicopter for part of the trip from there...

Some of the others have hardly done any research into Vegas at all.... hope this makes sense....

If anyone knows of any companies to contact while we are out there and have any ideas as to the prices that they paid I am sure the info would be of interest to alot of people reading the board.

    Thanks all

If they have done no research then they will be very disapointed as they will have an idea of what they expect and they will not get it again I am sorry to seem so negative and to bang on about it but yuo are looking at the best part of £1.5k here.

At the top of this page is the compnay that my friend reccomends, once in Vegas you can find tours being sold in many places I dont know which is good and which is not as I usually drive myself or have gone with locals and they have sorted it.

My pics again, I have tried to put the best from both here to keep it level.
I thought that the west rim was crap probably OK if you have not seen the south and north rim I will post some links to my west rim piccies in a mo and you can decide from them.

    Cheers

    Hi Simon

Thanks for the info and the pics... not sure what you mean about the best part of £1.5k though??

the group want to do a helicopter tour - none of us have been in a helicopter before so it would be quite special just to do that. And in deciding that we want to do the GC by helicopter, from the research I have done this leaves us with going to the West Rim.

I know exactly what you are saying though and alot of people have said the South rim is far more spectacular too :-)

Have to agree with SEW, dont do the west rim, You may not get a chance again, so go to the proper GC (south rim) it is awesome!!!!!!

Sorry i cant help with helicopters as I have driven there ( I dont get the attraction of a helicopter, I prefer american muscle cars). You WILL be disappointed with the west rim

    craigbroadman,

why dont you suggest you do a helecopter night flight of the strip one evening instead (10mins, $60'ish)? (they ply you with cheap free booze if that helps win your mates over)

then on another day, hire a car / van and drive to the grand canyon south, head off early and stop at the hoover dam for obligatory piccies etc :)

it'll cost a lot less money, you can book in advance, and you still get the helecopter ride bit - plus driving is a piece of cake! (you only go on 3 roads) :)

If the rate gets any worse I would seriously consider postponing my holiday to Vegas.

Its $1.48 to the £ now. Surely it has to bottom out soon ?
  • Cage we are nowhere near the bottom. The UK economy is in meltdown. The Bank of England doesn't drop interest rates by 150 pts in a month just for the hell of it.

Expect £1 = $1.30 by January. It won't recover any ground during 2009 as the UK will not be in a recession, it will be in a depression!!.

But don't worry according to Gordon Brown it's a global problem, sigh.
  • Hiya

Just noticed Travel zoo have Bette Midler tickets on offer... Ltd seast from 25 Nov-25 Jan.

I booked the cheap cheap seats... advertised for $45... By the time all the added extras it came to $127.xx for the 2 of us

    cheers
