    Hi peeps, remember me?

I normally check this topic every day, but the last time I was on was 20 September, the day before we went on a 2 week cruise. Was too busy when we got back to catch up on 2 week's posts and now 8 weeks later........ I'm off on holiday again tomorrow so just had to get caught up before I went.

It has taken me over 6 hours today to read the 50 pages  of posts made since then. You lot have been busy.

Anyway, I was another one who was bereft that bmi pulled out of Manchester. I had been planning to book my May flights in the January sale and had been monitoring prices for ages. I also have over 92,000 Diamond Club miles which weren't much use before, but are totally worthless now unless I want to spend them on a case of wine.

Took a few days to finally accept that the direct route just wasn't going to happen again. We have to fly from Aberdeen and that would have meant a 20kgs allowance ABZ-LGW and not being able to check our bags straight through. Same with TC from MAN.

Decided that as we had to have 2 stops I'd rather get the painful bit over first and fly to LA with a short hop to LV. Didn't relish the thought of long haul to ORD or DFW then another 4 hours to LV.

Wondered if it was worth waiting for any sales in January, but seeing as American Airlines had a sale that finished on 11 November and they were coming out cheapest AND for my preferred route, I booked with them on Tuesday evening, ABZ-LHR-LAX-LAS for the end of April for 14 nights. It's finally offiocial, I am going back to Vegas!! :T

I'm normally very excited as soon as I book my flights, but not this time. I think the reason is that with bmi there was only the option one flight to MAN and one to LAS so it was very straightforward and easy. Going indirect I first had the option of loads of carriers. Even when I got that down to just AA, there were pages and pages of different options to choose from and it was a bit stressful and daunting to try and choose the right combination. I mean one option would have had us stuck in Chicago for 6 hours between flights!

After catching up on here there have been some great offers, especially at the Venetian so I hope these keep coming in the next few months.

The down side of course is the exchange rate. I'm tempted to get £500 for forward purchase, but the rate for delivery in March isn't much more than the current rate. It's a bit disheartening to think that everything is already 25% more expensive without the rate going even lower.

Anyway, I shall try and catch up when I get back from Benidorm.

    November/December
    Hi guys/girls/men/ladies/anything else I forgotten...

I'm doing a quick cheapo emergency trip to Vegas for a week (OH got some time off work) and we're looking to fly 2nd-9th December. Found a deal on Expedia for £432pp for a week at the Sahara and flights with US Airways, 1 change at Charlotte. I had a look at booking separately, but with exchange rate as it is, it appears to be cheaper to book through Expedia...

I'm slowly getting through this thread and was wondering if some kind soul could help me out...
    • What is the Sahara like, is it worth staying there or pay £40 more to stay in Imperial Palace etc etc...
    • Is it a good deal? Do you think it can be beaten?
    • Is the flight likely to be good?
Also, do you nice people happen to have any links/tips for saving money when out there? Vouchers seem to be the best from what I'm looking at here. I have looked through my old posts (I was gonna go in 07 but my relationship at the time failed lol) and have a lot of links from there, but most of those links are from 2006...

Any help you guys can give me will be very much appreciated, thank you!

(dont be deceived tho, it started snowing hard after this was taken and visibility was difficult driving out of the park)

    Haha, Its a small world!

Well like i said mine was taken in March, but the funny thing is we went down the Canyon to the Indian campsite and it was red hot down there.

    American weather is bizarre!

I am meeting up with my mates saturday night to discuss the Vegas trip but with it only being just over a week til we go (24th November) its gona be my last chance to try to pursuade them to book now!!

Is it maybe that some aren't very fussed about making the side trip? If it's something that's really important to you, maybe tell them that - that you would be disappointed to miss out by not booking in advance - maybe some of the group agree and those that do could see about booking...then the rest can join you if there's availability or a deal that they're happy with.

That's what I would do, anyway...make it known that it's a big thing for me, see who's with me, book for those who are keen to be sure it's locked in and the rest can take their chances.

To be fair whilst the Grand Canyon is absolutely amazing, if all you are going to do is have a look at it then id not bother. Save it for some other time when you can go down it and rafting.

Another vote here for Bill's. Small but well situated. If it wasn't your first time I'd suggest the Orleans-but I think for a first visit on Strip is the way to go so within your budget I'd also suggest the Riviera which is "Old Vegas" on the Strip but has a Duece stop right outside to take you to and from mid strip with an unlimited 24 hour ticket costing $5 so a much cheaper option than cabs (will even take you to Downtown-which is worth a visit but probably not ideal for a first time visit as somewhere to stay). Weekend rates there run at $50 or less. Midweek will be cheaper. It's clean and comfortable and much nicer than CircusCircus opposite. They are also good for free upgrades. In October I was upgraded to a suite from a rock bottom rate and I met other people who had been upgraded from basic to deluxe rooms too whilst there. I like to spend my money on having fun and to me a room is just a room and unless it's a fantastic offer I don't see the point in paying to be right in midstrip but I know not everyone feels the same.

I disagree. Not everyone WANTS to raft. The Canyon is worth a visit JUST to look for many people.........we are all different.

I agree...I'm really glad I 'had a look'...would I rush back over and over to have another look? Not likely...but it's something I am glad I did and do not regret doing even though we were there for approximately 6 total hours of daylight between the afternoon before and morning after our night there...would say we spent no more than a total of 4 hours having a look but the trip was worth it to us.

However, we went last month...approximately 7 years after our first Vegas trip that was to include a day-trip to the GC...so, I can totally see where it doesn't necessarily fit into a given trip's circumstances and can be left for another time...we left it for 11 trips (after the 3rd trip of not making it to the GC we stopped planning to go and only finally got around to it when we were with the in-laws. :))

I went to the Grand Canyon and I gotta say- it was exactly what I expected. A load of rocks, I would have preferred to stay on the strip for the day but the GF wanted to go.

Save your money- look at the pics on google or something
