We're all only 24/25 and its out first time to Vegas for all of us, hopefully one day we will get to go back and maybe then experience the South Rim :-)
If you really fancy a helicopter trip, want to say you have been to the grand canyon, fly over the strip on the way back, then go for the west rim trip. A Lot cheaper than the south rim, we did it, and although it's not as awe inspiring as some think, without anything to compare it to we thought it was cool. I am notoriously hard to please ( I think the Hover Dam is kinda small)!! You get a 50 minute chopper ride each way which is neat in itself, you fly over Hover Dam, lake Las Vegas, and lake Mead, get to see the Colorado River, land down in the Canyon for a glass of champagne (although not as good the South Rim I am told) then if you book your trip for the last one of the day, you will get a twilight strip flight thrown in. As I understand it will be pretty cold at the South rim this time of year anyway. I agree with sturll (must be coming down with something) if I was to spend lots of money on the SR trip, I would want to go right down into the Canyon and actually do something. The time of year is the reason we decided not to go when I asked the question earlier in the week. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -
MayI went to the Grand Canyon and I gotta say- it was exactly what I expected. A load of rocks, I would have preferred to stay on the strip for the day but the GF wanted to go.

Okay, I'll throw one in. We walked down to Mandalay Bay first day and decided to go to Shark Reef Aquarium. Thought it was very nice for the money (that is compared to something we could go see not far from where we live) That is when we realised how bl**dy big the hotels were!!! Seemed like miles to get to it.
Also saw the lions at MGM, looked dead.
Forgot to say we didn't make it to X-Scream. Very sad. So much on next to do list. Ferf1223 did you get anyone to go on with you?
Also very happy to have the excellent weather 3WEEKS  AGO. Any tan is now gone.0 -
I was typing my essay when Oneil posted this. I would agree
i would disagree. When i am off the Vegas in January i will definately be visiting the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, i think people dont realise that to see the true beauty of nature or a man made monument you have to appreciate it. When i went egypt my GF thought the same about the pyramids but when you understand the history behind it you appreciate it. When people go visit the Taj Mahal in India they are overwhelmed initally with the beauty but when they are told the history behind it being there (which by the way is an emperor had workers make that for his wife as an offering of love) They you see their faces drop saying ahhhhh.
Sorry to be long winded but i think you need to see something, experience it and appreciate it. But i cant wait.

In the end couldn't get anyone to go on it and didn't really have time...maybe another time.
As for Shark Reef - totally agree on the distance - crazy! I had read it was a long walk but it seemed like miles, you are right! I've been to some awesome aquariums in the US before so Shark Reef was a letdown for me...but compared to say the London Aquarium I thought it was pretty good. I enjoyed it though had I known how small it was I would have spent a bit more time looking at each exhibit - even from the map they gave us it seemed a lot smaller than I was expecting.
When we went to see the lions they had 2 older males in there with their trainers - it was fantastic...it's fairly unusual to get the bigger males in there and was really cool to see them...it's also amazing to me how much they are like our house cats - just lots bigger - they played just like them, on a much larger scale.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

AprilHi guys/girls/men/ladies/anything else I forgotten...
I'm doing a quick cheapo emergency trip to Vegas for a week (OH got some time off work) and we're looking to fly 2nd-9th December. Found a deal on Expedia for £432pp for a week at the Sahara and flights with US Airways, 1 change at Charlotte. I had a look at booking separately, but with exchange rate as it is, it appears to be cheaper to book through Expedia...
I'm slowly getting through this thread and was wondering if some kind soul could help me out...- What is the Sahara like, is it worth staying there or pay £40 more to stay in Imperial Palace etc etc...
- Is it a good deal? Do you think it can be beaten?
- Is the flight likely to be good?
Any help you guys can give me will be very much appreciated, thank you!
i don't know what sort of flight prices you can get booking with the airline direct ( for indirect flights) . you need to go to each of their sites and price up some fares.try Virgin , Delta , United , BMI , AA, US Airways , continental , and even BA . also if you can fly on Wednesday check out My travel.
then check this link http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/travel-deals/704925/?start=0 to price up a room.
The Sahara is a long walk off the main strip , but does have the Monorail to get you there . The Imperial Palace is right on the main strip so add up a weeks worth of monorail fairs onto the Sahara price for a good comparison.Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -

it's not unheard of for a 3rd party too be cheaper for a certain hotel , for a certain date , as the Casino's give blocks of rooms to them , so if they are not selling that particular block then will need to discount it.
of course if you do book with them , you forfeit the ability to cancel it, if you found something better. double check all the deals on offer for your dates using the links on post #1.
what may be happening is that the 3rd party deals are becoming good value because the £ is dropping like a stone against the $ , and these deals were priced up when you had a good exchange rate.Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -

is £266 for those dates on Hotels.com:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0
