On this topic, has anyone ever had a decent Indian meal in Vegas, or anywhere else other than the U.K. for that matter. We have tried 2 different
places in Vegas and both were dire. Did here once that there was a place open by an Indian guy from the U.K. but can't remember what it was called.

which two Indian places did you try . ??

i guess we in Britain are the most spoiled nation in the world as regards Indian Cuisine , so we don't tolerate mediocrity well

Best one I've come across is at the back of the marketplace area just down from the MGM. Can't remember its name though ..sorry

Looked it up on the net and it looks like it is called Tamba .... and there are as many negative posts about it as there are positives!

    It's fantastic.

This is an old article, but still...

That's the baby. Will give it one last go. Really have stopped trying Indians in foreign places now. Everywhere from Portugal, Spain, Germany, they are all pale comparisons to what we get here.
WDYW- Tamba was one of the ones I tried, probably the worst Indian ever, but it was a buffet. You even had to pay extra if you wanted a soft drink instead of water!!
Just as an aside, the same thing can't be said for Chinese food. I think the U.S. has a slight edge on us here, but IMHO it's pretty hard to mess up Chinese food.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

I've had a look at various review sites and almost every one of them has nothing but bad reviews for Tamba over the last 6 months. Prior to that, excellent reviews, obviously they have gone downhill ....fast!

The one in the Rio is the Gaylord ...not just GAY!

Agree with your view on the quality of Chinese restaurants... we tried Pearl this year in the MGM and it was excellent ....but devoid of customers! can't remember having a bad Chinese in Vegas. (looking forward already to a Special Chow Mein from the Moss road takeaway.... )

No but if you look at your dashboard panel ....next to the fuel gauge is a little petrol pump logo...if you look at that logo...the fuel pipe will be on the left if your petrol cap is on the left of your car and on the right if that's the side your cap is on
I never knew that, guess it makes sense tho:T

for those interested in trying Origin India, had an email that in response to the credit crunch they're doing set menus ($15pp or $19.95pp)

It's not the easiest to read, but you get the idea.

    http://www.tablebythewindow.com/ccremote/originindia/OImenus1008.jpg

And there's also a 15% off coupon here (good to September 2009):

Though says you cannot combine with any other offers - not sure if the set menus would be considered an 'offer' but would guess that restaurant.com vouchers would.

    Where is origin India please

Origin India does also do restaurant.com vouchers but does have the automatic gratuity (20%, I think).

If anyone likes Thai, there's a great place (also in a shopping centre) called Lotus of Siam...have read it described in one review as the best Thai in America.

Loved it so much. The appetizer I had (Nam Kao Tod - Minced sour sausage mixed with green onion, fresh chili, ginger, peanuts, crispy rice and lime juice) still makes my mouth water thinking about it.

As for Chinese, the only place we've tried in Vegas is PF Changs which I love as it's the closest to the Chinese I grew up with I have ever found. I love Chinese and am a bit picky but Chinese is really relative - what one person loves the other hates.
