we stayed at Hilton Universal and it was everything you'd expect, plus conveniantly close to the Studios and more importantly the City Walk (which we wanted so we had something to do at night whilst retaining the feeling of being safe :D *paranoid*)

it's just up the hill from the underground down to Hollywood (1 stop away i think... see my earlier post), and is a 30'ish(?) minute drive to Santa Monica --- not the nearest beach I expect, but it was nice :) we hired 'tricycles' and went across the beach footpaths on them which was cool :)

Next to the Hilton were a couple of other hotels but my minds gone blank... you should be able to find them if you have a look :)

One thing to remember is if you do stop at the Hilton, prepare for the pure evil known as the lifts... if you're on one of the higher floors they are completely horrendous!!! 15minute wait sometimes!

I'm pretty certain it's only a 10min drive from Six Flags too

Ah, it was the Sheraton that was right next door - may be worth a look? :)

Anyone got any experience of any of these

Seems like a decent deal but a bit dubius about where they get so many from?

I said in my post after coming back that his passes were successful, we got into industry night at Jet (Monday) with them no problems.

We are going this December so the pool will not be an issue. Was there much noise/disruption within the hotel? Have also just been sent a $95 a night deal for Caesars which seems good to me.
you won't notice anything inside, and at $95 a night, I woud snap it up. I never get sent deals from any hotels even though i sign up for all of them. Make sure you use the tip trick to get upgraded to the Augustus Tower as the deal will probably be for a classic room. The tip trick almost always works, asreported before on here
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

I was in LA earlier this year but stayed down in Anaheim (mostly because of cost and we wanted to be close to Disney and Knotts Berry) so can't help with the hotels there I'm afraid. I agree with NVH about Santa Monica beach being good, drove down there and enjoyed walking round the shops then down to the beach, Santa Monica also seems to be the place where people "audition" as there is lots of street entertainment there as well.

Wouldn't agree about six flags being only ten minutes away though, more like half an hour or more, I seem to remember it took us almost two hours to get there from Anaheim. Great place for coater enthusiasts though, get to X2 first that is one nasty ride!!

  • Spent last week at thorpe park and went on Stealth (4 times) which is the best coaster ive ever been on. Future Mrs Daz has done the one at Cedar point which is twice as high, which she ensures me is 'fun'.

Six flags looks good and if the queues allow, we'll go on all the coasters.

we stayed at a motel in Santa Monica a few years ago that was great - good location, nice room, good price, convenient to what we wanted to do though we did have a rental car.

    Overall gets pretty good reviews.

Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

oh, and if anyone's in the Santa Monica area - I highly recommend Patrick's.

    Arnold Schwarzenegger eats there.

yeah, when we go next year we are doing unievrsal studios for a day and six flags for a day...

have a car......so looking for a decent place to stay for 3 nights....the hilton looks ok. but may try a bit more of a b+B place but any suggestions always good...

Is it worth driving up the coast from San Diego thru LA to universal area??? i bet that would take a long time, but good sites?
