If you are going to GC West, a convertible is not a good idea...you will come back with a sandpit on wheels!
The Chrysler 300 was superb, big, luxurious and amazingly cheap.
We did get the 5.7 V8 though - torque heaven!
Weather was quite warm but with a little chill in the morning and late afternoon. I have since heard rumours that they will refuse to insure cars along the GC West route as the road is that bad. Anyone else heard this?
I am going back in 2 weeks but staying in LV for 4 days at the Excalibur. Miffed about the exchange rate now, was getting over 2 dollars to the pound this time last year!

Oh that is the car I want us to hire next year. Please please tell me what the boot size is like. Will it fit 4 suitcases in it? It looks big on the outside but is there plenty of legroom in the back for 2 growing teenagers?

Someone who lives up the road from us has this car and I have considered loitering outside his house until he opens up the boot and non-chalantly taking a peek, but I think it might be wise not to :p

I've been reading back through the thread from the start, even though I've probably already read at least half, sad eh? Anyway, I found this post from Feb by trets for Treasure Island good til end of month. It's NON REFUNDABLE, but it's a good price. Just thought I'd share. I've cancelled 2 of my 5 nights at MGM in Nov and booked this for 2 nights ($95 per night), as I've not tried out ti before......

I dont fancy driving to Vegas from LA after an 11 hour flight arriving mid afternoon. So, has anyone done that drive and can recommend anywhere to stay say an hour or so out of LA on the way to Vegas? Any nice towns/hotels on the way?

Also, any recommendations for "cheap" hotel in Vegas at the weekend......not necessarily on Strip, as will be moving to Strip after the weekend.

There were 4 of us - all adults and 3 over 6 foot! We had 4 suitcases in the boot (just) and it was VERY comfortable. I was worried about the capacity also, but one of my travelling companions went to a Chrysler dealer and had a good look around before we booked. The dealer actually tried to come the "hard sell" but when my mate said he was looking at the boot capacity for a trip the dealer suddenly became very friendly and said "okay, treat your holiday as a long test drive - help yourself and I'll look forward to seeing you when you get back with your cheque book in hand"
I would buy one if I could afford it but at 5.7litres I would need a large fuel budget!

I got back from my 3rd trip yesterday and I'm now planning my 4th trip maybe in January. I have heard the orleans mentioned on here a lot of times, is there a shuttle to the strip and how often?? And does anybody have any comments on the hotel.

    Cheers

We have stayed at the Orleans several times and really like the property. The shuttle is about every 15-20 minutes from 9 am to 1 am (ish) The rooms are nice and have a sitting area to one side. The bathrooms are small, but there is a small window in them, unusual in Vegas.

The buffet is good value, the Oyster Bar is excellent, Terrible Mike's is good for burgers and sandwiches. They also have a TGI Friday's and a coffee shop. Neither of which I've tried. Good poker room, reasonable gambling, several bars. What's not to like. We are booked in there for more than half of our November trip.

I''l try to look out some room photos for you .

Hope that helps. (BTW we are paying $25 per night for our weeknights in November. Very good value IMHO.)

If anyone is after car hire in US, may be worth trying www.auto-europe.co.uk for a quote.

We've just booked an intermediate car for 7 days, including tank of fuel and 3 additonal drivers (must be over 25) for £121. This was for pick up in SF and drop-off in Vegas, with no one-way charges. Since a tank of fuel must be worth at least £20 now, seemed a pretty good deal and there are no fees if you need to cancel.

    Hope this helps.
This site seems like a bargain. Just got a quote for a 2 door Pontiac G6, for £158 - 9 days, includes tank of fuel, and includes "Collision Damage Waiver and Theft protection for the vehicle with Zero excess therefore client should not purchase any additional insurance at time of pick up. Unlimited mileage and fire insurance. Liability Insurance for injuries or damages to persons or things outside the vehicle"

OK I didn't have any photos apart from us sitting on the sofa so I googled and found these for you. Like I said, small bathroom, but big bed and sitting area.

    Much better idea....... http://www.scenic.com/saws1gc_deluxe_overnight.htm

South Rim tour, plus overnight hotel $300. Kills two birds with one stone.
