The $20 Trick does not work at MGM Grand or MGM Signatrure if any employee gets caught taking a bribe for an upgrade will recieve a reprimand, I have been told that this has now been extended to Mandalay Bay but I have not heard that from the horses mouth where as on the MGM Grand I have.
Worked for us at Signature 3 weeks ago ($30 tip for 3 nights). Got a high room (Penthouse floors) with 'strip' view (the airport view would be better though with all the construction).0 -
JulyWas your Orleans booking through a 3rd party? I only ask as the last time I booked with a 3rd party the hotel itself didn't have details of the customer until quite close to the reservation date - the 3rd party buys a block of rooms from the hotel and resells them...close to the date of the booking they advise the hotel of the customer's details.
I don't know how far in advance the hotel gets the info - only mention it as if it's only a few days before that the hotel gets the info, when checking in for the first of 2 7-night bookings they may not have the details of the second one yet.
I agree that 2 bookings is the best option if expedia is giving a better rate than booking direct...just that it may not be possible to link the two reservations at check-in.

Booking the Sig. It is about £40 dearer for a "one-bedroom suite" than a "junior suite". Has anyone stayed in both? Is it worth the extra?
Have stayed in both, if it's £40 extra for a few nights it's worth it. If it's £40 per night, I would take a chance on an upgrade when checking in.
The 1br suite is really nice but we probably spend less than 2 hours a day in the room (except for sleeping of course !). Save your money for your gambling budget !0 -

November/DecemberHmm thats what i was thinking however i have read reviews where the $20 tip worked to get a 1 bedroom upgrade but there was also a post there that said the MGM sig have stopped the upgrades. I would br raging if I paid £360 extra (9 nights) when i could get it for a 20 or 40 dollar tip.
Can you pay for an upgrade at the desk and if so will it cost me a lot more than if i booked it now?
That way i could book the junior suite, try the $20 tip and if it doesnt work just pay for it at the desk?
Also im staying for 9 nights, would i need to tip a lot more for a better chance of an upgrade?0 -

If its the beginning of November you are going, it may be quite busy at MGM
I am staying at the Signature on 7th Nov for 3 nights for the Madonna concerts on 8th & 9th at MGM Grand Arena0 -

Have you booked yet? Im probably going to book a junior suite with expedia tonight, might try and give $50 tip to see if i can get upgraded to a bedroom suite or maybe even $100 tip. £6 a night would be worth it!0 -
MayWith people finding cheaper hotel prices on expedia perhaps the first post in this thread should be updated?
also have a look at cityandshow.com for hotels, I have used them several times, and you only need pay a £99 deposit on booking - if booked more than 12 weeks in advance...they are also on Quidco
They have Signature Junior Suite 4 nights £547 on 5th Nov
and 1 bedroom suite for £689
Think thats a lot cheaper than Expedia at the moment0 -
