All the hotels with casinos have free drinks service when you are playing-even if it's the penny slots (well free apart from the $1 per drink tip-don't stiff the waitress-you'll wait a loooong time for her to come around again if you do !)
Avoid the Monte Carlo if you like the pool as the nearby building work affects the pool area noisewise.
Keep an eye on www.travelzoo.com (pick the US site when offered the choice not the UK one) for hotel deals.
Honestly reading the rest of the thread will help you loads as we all look for different things but hopefully once you've narrowed it down a bit we can all help more :)
Tripadvisor is REALLY subjective...especially for Vegas-if someone loses their shirt they'll find fault with everything. If a hotel has mainly good/bad reviews and just a few vastly at odds with the majority-I'm inclined to ignore those few.......and haven't had a bad experience choosing a hotel that way yet.

(btw just followed my own advice and checked out travelzoo and found my own hotel booking for next month has now reduced in price YAY)

My wife and I are just back from Vegas and here's a few tips we found on the way:

Everywhere in Vegas people are offering you timeshare. When we were running low on cash at the end of the trip we decided to see if it was worth going to a presentation in exchange for one of the bribes they entice you with (in our case $175 in gaming vouchers we were told you could exchange for cash) and it worked fine!

We went to a presentation with "Grandview", from the Luxor. You need to pay $40 up front (per couple) to guarantee that you turn up to the presentation. You are taken as a group to a presentation centre where they give you your own sales rep to try and flog you a timeshare, you get a free lunch too! We went in with the "No Way" mentality but you will find them very convincing. We didnt sign up as you had to sign there and then and they seem to find ways of slashing the price about 3 further times when you say no.

When you get to the end of the presentation if you want the cash, (it says on your forms you cant exchange them for cash, but you can!) choose gaming vouchers for the slot machines. You are given vouchers that you take to the casino cashier to exchange for slot machine vouchers, put the vouchers into any slot machine then straight away push "cash out" and thats it - $175 (minus your $40 outlay)

The presentation lasts 2 -3 hours.

Also here is the current offers being offered by Casino Players Clubs that require no, or little spend by you:

MGM (Luxor, Excalabur etc) - $10 free on most slot machines - You have to enter $1 bill into the machine to activate it. - This was the only offer I profited from, I won about $25!!

Planet Hollywood - One free spin on a giant slot machine per day to win $1million and a further $1million shopping spree

Casino Royale - $50 to be used on special slot machines to win up to £5000. Only the jackpot pays out on these machines so its unlikely you will win.

Hooters - $100 to be played on special slot machines with a jackpot of about $5000 if I remember correctly. This is on $2 slot machines and only the jackpot pays out. You also get a free $50,000 spin on a special slot machine per day.

The rest I found didnt really offer anything for free, eg Tropicana offers $50 free on special slots but you have to spend $20 to get you the $50.

If you want to learn how to play any of the table games, Excalabur offer the following free lessons everyday, which were very informative:

    11am - Roulette

    11.30am - Blackjack

    12 noon - Craps

    2pm - Texas Holdem Poker

Afterwards Craps and Poker lessons they offered a $3 minimum bet game at Craps to get you playing or a $20 "buy in" at poker to give you practice. I declined on both, especially sine there was a regular poker player sitting in on the lessons with his wife who wanted to learn - obviously he was very keen for a "practice" game afterwards!

Casino Royal offer $5 table games and are located on the Strip. Most others are $10 minimum.

The Imax is closed at the Luxor permanantly, even although they just have a closed sign that appears it is just closed for the night.

Tropicana has the Titanic exhibition that is moving to the Luxor soon - its excellent.
It also has the Bodies exhibition that we didnt go to.

I'm sure there are more tips but I cant think of them just now, will post later if I do.

Excellent posts from everyone, loads of useful information. Recently found out, my favourite British rock band, are playing Vegas:T, on the day we fly home . Anyone know any good bars that play live rock music in Vegas?

Fab 4 tickets can be found at half price booths.

I just noticed the other day that they are back playing at the V Theater inside the Miracle Mile shops, having moved from the Sahara.

The V Theater is smaller and more intimate although the theatre was better at the Sahara.

They are also now called Fab Four Live instead of Fab Four Mania.

    Hi all,

I've booked a couple of nights at THEhotel at Mandalay bay and included is $300 of Mandalay place certificates.

I can't find any details on what this would be - I'm assuming money off vouchers for spa, restaurants etc but if anyone knows for sure could you enlighten me?

    Thanks in advance

yeah , thats what they are , though you will probably have to go some to get the full $300 worth .
Top tip but does this still work?

    Regards

    Steve

Don't know what the requirement is for 4 buffets but what ever that is use that instead of the $75.
Unfortunalty we signed up a few years ago before this little trick was available, and keep racking my brains as to a way we can sign up again as we used driving licence and passports for i.d.

last i heard , but i think you need to make a few more bets now , so may end up being a few more $ , but still a HUGE saving on what the buffet cost ( p.s i didn't rate the Wynn the buffet) . any used this one recently??

have you also checked Virgin , Air France and BMI ??? they are all direct. check back a few pages for the posts about the great BMI fares to LA . also to answer your earlier question Virgin to LA are very comfy and good ( unlike Las Vegas route /planes ) .

if you like movies i highly recommend the warner bros studio tour in LA . http://www2.warnerbros.com/vipstudiotour/
