we went december 6th -> 22nd 2006 and found the first week and a half (at least) was t-shirt weather, however i looked at the historic weather for 2007 and apparently it was a lot cloudier for the same period then

put in some dates on here if you want an idea :)

  • We were there last new year, arrived on boxing day.

It was jumper/light jacket weather most of the time. Even being outside for hours on NYE didn't require more than a couple of layers to be warm enough.

We went down to the Grand Canyon for a night and it was FREEZING there!

Well worth it for the atmosphere on NYE though - amazing!

Ok, this is a bit irritating. When I'm checking rates for the rooms, most of the sites, you have to put 3 things in. The dates, number of nights staying & how mant guests. The number of guests only goes up to 4. My party will be 5, but we want 3 separate rooms. There is no provision for me to book 3 separate rooms. How do I do this?.
Also, I've asked this before, but not had any replies, how do I get a promo code for Thomas Cook flights.

Katykat, to get a room price you will have to do it singly. i.e. price per room. Just put your dates in and 2 guests to get a price for one room.

Can't help on the TC promo code. Never heard of one before you mentioned it.

Hi Steff, where did you get the American Casino Guide from?
    Hi trigger,
Im sure that I got mine from Amazon, but I didnt pay that much for it!
Maybe I am getting confused and ordered it elsewhere cos after checking on amazon yesterday its coming out at something close to £20 and Im certain that I didnt pay that.
See ferfs advice on page 169 I think - its a great help.

Steff, thanks for reply about the Meridian. I've got to say, it is still right at the top of my favourites, but we are considering others. we now think maybe 3 separate rooms may be better, but are really undecided. In actual fact, your post puts me in another dilema. Whilst the Mridian sounds idyllic, I'm not sure I now want to stay somewhere that makes me feel I'm not in Vegas. does that sound bad? I've dreamed so long about going, I think I want all the glitz and razamatazz. Rest of the family are leaning on me heavily to go for the Bellagio, but something is holding me back. Not sure what. Its not the price, because the Wynn is more expensive and Venetian even more, but ther's something. Sounds like you had a whale of a time, glad you got to see the canyon, its definately on my agenda
You're welcome. I understand what you mean about wanting the razamatazz - during my first visit to Vegas (when I stayed at the Wynn) we had an unbroken view of the strip from our window and I didnt want to leave the room for looking at it!! I felt right in the heart of things and it was a pleasure just to look at it.
Nowadays, whilst I still adore that side of vegas I enjoy having an uncrowded and peaceful place to return to (relatively speaking of course as nowhere is THAT peaceful in vegas - thank god!!!!) I didnt stay at the Meridien myself, but my friend did say it was ideal for her family and with having the little one. I see from a further post that it may be shut anyway - sorry!

For what its worth, my opinion on the Bellagio, Wynn & Venetian is in this order Wynn, Venetian & Bellagio. The Wynn most certainly has all the glitz & glamour you are after yet it has a tranquil, relaxed and uncrowded feel to the place - classy I suppose (but not up its own bum!!). The Venetian is much bigger (or seems it) so it feels a little more crowded, but, to me, it is one of my favourites - the "sky" and the atmosphere is just lovely. Then the Bellagio - the fountains are definately my favourite attraction in vegas without a doubt and I love to visit the foyer and the chocolate fountain etc - BUT so do thousands of other tourists and I know that if I were staying there for a long period of time that it would annoy me having to dodge the crowds.

There are a lot of people who have stayed at both The Wynn & Bellagio that compare the two on Trip Advisor - have a look at what they have to say - it may help your decision.

Can I just say - I visited the Palazzo during my recent trip and the atmosphere there really reminded me of the atmosphere at The Wynn - I really warmed to the place and from looking at their website, the rooms/suites look divine - I think that may be our treat night stopover next visit!!

We did have a whale of a time - enjoy the canyon!

Really sorry that you had a bad experience though I don't think you can put that down to restaurant.com? I can understand your perspective, but for us, we've had many great meals using the vouchers and saved quite a bit of cash - and even found some great restaurants we would have missed otherwise (Austin's and Sonoma Cellar). I think it's really down to the restaurants themselves. I can really understand not wanting to pay the 18% on poor service - absolutely...but we would pay more than that normally for good service and so for the meals we have had which have all been good in terms of food and service, it's great to get $25 off for $4 or $5.

    Hi ferf,
I know that you are a big fan of restaurant.com and use them a lot.
I totally concede thatits not their fault that I had a bad experience at Ocean One Bar & Grille and, as you say, if you receive both great food and great service then their vouchers work perfectly - as has been your experience - thats great.

The problem arises if you DONT receive good service - you are FORCED to pay 18% service charge - that is the flaw in them. Out of principal I spoke to the manager there and he said there was nothing they could do - I HAD to pay it. I really really hated having to do that. (I know you have advised me in the past that some places dont add the 18% on - then thats even better and I would probably tip them more for that alone!).

In the very unlikely event that I use restaurant.com again I would first find a restaurant over there that I liked (eg Bills Steakhouse) and see if restaurant.com did vouchers for it - that way I would at least have a clue if good service was the norm - then there would be no issue.

But, to be honest, even before my experience at Ocean One, I was sort of planning my trip around eating at the restaurants that I had vouchers for and I found that to be a little tying and too regimented for me. I've now tried them and found that they are not for me - but do appreciate that they work in the right circumstances.

We ordered ours from amazon.co.uk late last year or early this year and paid £8 or so for it...I suppose the later in the year, the less available the book is and the more they charge for it.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?
