I'm not 100% sure if it will be the same on the vegas route but i'm not holding my breath. TBH the rows of two were the only thing that made the virgin flight appealing, and i'd not be best pleased to have to pay for it. The only thing that would make me fly with them again is if i get a good sale fare- i'm looking at going in december and they want £560 (or £460 M&M) which i can't bring myself to pay so i may just have to look elsewhere. Its such a shame how the standard on virgin has deteriorated, as i have fond memories of my first flight with them and used to think they were worth paying the extra money for.

i could not agree more . clever plan by Virgin isn't it !!!

make out like they are offering more leg room and better seats for less than Premium economy and boast about improving passenger comfort , while all they are really doing is cashing in on the few good seats that plane has in cattle class , which were available for free before to people with the forsight to book them up early.it's a win win devised by some suit in a faceless office somewhere

and they have the nerve to charge £560 for that , i'm only sad that this thread cannot give a heads up to all who are planning a flight on that sardine tin.we have nearly 200,000 hits on this thread ,but i bet Virgin still fill that flight most days

nothing is going to change until a airline takes them on on this route , or they buy some new planes . neither seem on the horizon IMO .
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

Seriously the LHR - LAX tickets were £325 for both of us. Its worth a little pain.

Thats not the painful route, that is luxury compared with gatwick - vegas, which IMO isnt worth £100 never mind the £290 I paid.

I think i read on v-flyer that the rows of two at the plane are among those that will attract this extra charge, bad news for those of us that try and bag these seats early on to try and make the flight more bearable:mad: Anyone who has already selected their seats on upcoming flights should log in and check they still have them- lots of disgruntled peeps on the florida forum who had their seats reallocated (not sure if its happened on the vegas route yet).

I can't see how those could be the seats in question as they don't have more leg room than the other economy seats?

In any event, we had 2 pairs at the back booked on our flight out in October - 2 for me and my husband, 2 in front of us for my in-laws...we were so excited.

But they moved us a few weeks ago to a row of 4. We assumed this was because their computer couldn't process the idea of 4 passengers travelling together sat in 2 rows but perhaps not reading this.

...and my mother-in-law has recentlly hurt her back and is worried now she won't be able to make the trip. :( May need to look into what 'changes' are allowed for £50 as I know name changes are not...and they have travel insurance, but it will expire before the trip and doesn't cover the US. Will be such a shame if they can't make the trip as have been really looking forward to it.

I know this question is a week old but we just got back from vegas yesterday
We went to the grand canyon on our way to vegas(flew into san francisco and visited yosemite, death valley, monument valley and grand canyon before getting to vegas) We stayed at the thunderbird lodge which is next door to bright angel lodge. We parked around 1 pm right outside our lodge. We figured everyone leaving would have checked out by then and people arriving may not have arrived yet as check in isn't till 4 pm. I don't know if that works every day but it certainly worked for us. We then used the shuttle buses to get around.
Sunset was awesome. The colours of the canyon really changed. Being July sunset wasn't till 8-40pm so we ate before going to see it. At night you can't see the canyon but can still walk the paths if you want. There wasn't much to do at night other than visiting the bar.

Thanks very much - we're booked at Thunderbird so good to hear about the parking situation. Hopefully we won't have to put off the GC trip (as we really want to take the in-laws with us when we do finally go but I've really been looking forward to it).

Presumably the only way they can add a few inches to the last few rows is either to cut and shunt the whole plane adding another foot or two of fuselage, or taking a row of seats out, or taking out the loo at the back corner of the plane.

Cant really see them doing any of these.

    Am I doing something wrong?
We are staying at the Mirage for 14 nights from 31st August, the thing is the cheapest that I have been able to find stip view, is direct on the mirage site at $2600 and for the last month its not gone up or down and I haven't found anything that comes even close.

WHY? everyone else seems to find it cheaper before they go and now its just doing my head in:mad:

    Cheers

They are actually going to re-configure the planes to allow for the extra legroom/pitch in 4 rows
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

you still should receive a booking ref. code (about 5 letters and a couple of numbers) use this on the "manage my bookings" page of the VS site
