PS Sorry to ask a really dumb question - but what would happen if there were any flight delays and you couldn't catch the connecting flight? Also, is your luggage automatically transferred to your next flight? (We've only ever done one long journey and that was 20 years ago!)

if you book that Delta flight and you miss your booked connection due to delay of 1st flight they (Delta) have to re book you on the next available flight or put you up in a hotel, until there is a flight.( i imagine a pretty regular service to LV)
this happened to us in Oct with US Airways. our flight from Manchester to Philly was delayed 2 hours , so they re booked our connection to Boston at Manchester . beacuse it would all be one ticket they have to sort it out for you.

your bags will have be collected in Atalanta and then re checked for Vegas after going through customs ect ( in our case you just gave them to a guy who stuck them on a belt and then re enter secure area via security to walk to gate for next flight) . this is because of US security measures. the big US airports are set up to deal with this and probably 1000's do this everyday . if you missed you connection due to delay of bags or customs ect Delta are still obligagted to get you to Vegas .

on return you would only have to check your bags once , and they will be transfered between planes for you usually
anyone think well be able to get a cheap upgrade to premium at the airport(manchester)

maybe ,on our BMI flight the people behind us in economy payed to upgrade while the plane was boarding at which point my wife helped her self to the 2 empty seats . how much they paid i don't know buy they seemed to haggle with the cabin crew when the got to the Prem Economy seats.
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

Of course if the fountains are the important thing then you could stay in the Planet Hollywood, or Paris on the opposite side and then get a fountain view room.

Just what I was going to suggest!. We stayed at PH last time we went to LV and had a fountain view room.

I agree that that is an option - staying across the street in a fountain view room, but the fountain view from a room IN Bellagio is just amazing - especially with the TV channel which plays the music...It really was a great experience for us (for one night, mind!) The hotel did seem too posh for us (Wynn didn't - odd) and we felt slightly out of place, but the view was worth it.

All that said, most (all?) of the fountain shots in Oceans 11 are from street level and you can get that for free without staying there. :)

I say if it's something you've always wanted to do, do it...especially if regular trips to Vegas aren't likely to be in the cards - you don't want to get home and think 'I wish we would have...'
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?
  • Hi guys,

Thanks for your replies earlier regarding hotels. Can I ask the same on these please if you don't mind.

Stratosphere - is the location the only thing which would put you off this hotel?

Hilton - can get a Sat & Sun stay for £151. Firstly, I think the price is good but is it really? I've been told it's not too far from the strip & it seems that way looking at the map Trets posted. I've been told to snap this up while I have the chance!!

Flamingo - Luxury Go Strip View room - anyone stayed in them. Obviously location is superb, rooms look lovely but not really seen any info about this on here (apologies if I have missed something). A work colleague has been inside, but not stayed, said it looked lovely.

What we want is a clean place to stay with a pool so we can sun ourselves if we wish to do so. Location is a bonus, there are so many hotels to choose from & I'm already dizzy!

Now what I want is to treat the girlfriend to at least 1 night (hopefully 2)in a fab hotel. Would Mandalay Bay, MGM Signature, Bellagio or Luxor be that hotel?

At present I have the following:

    3 nights at Strat
    2 nights at Hilton
    3 nights at Luxor

Cost approx £350-£360. My budget is more but I don't want to spend for the sake of it.

    Thanks again in advance!

Stayed in a 'Go' room last year. room was excellent and the TV in the mirror in the bathroom really made us larf!! Great view of the Bellagio's fountains but of course soundproofed. All in all a good room.Glorious bed or it could have been that I was cream crackered every time I went to bed.

I broke my own First Rule of Vegas......just cos you can see it doesnt mean you can walk it. Hilton to Mirage doesnt look far on the map does it....it doesnt look far when youre there either. Took easily an hour including walking down the hard shoulder of a three lane busy road, through The Encore building site and then walking across the Wynn golf course.

Oh and while youre there, dont go to the Star Trek exhibition.

    Just my opinons but,

Firstly the location is a major downer on the Strat and the surrounds aren't the nicest areas. Never stayed thier though, visited for the view and a bit of $5 black jack which is rarer centre strip. I have to say again though the location is pants.

Secondly have you priced up Planet Hollywood? 2 pools, nothing special but they get the sun all day and the location on the strip is perfect IMHO. It was reasonably priced and we got an upgrade with fountain view with the $20 trick.

In answer to your 3rd question, I would say not the Luxor probably. For a truly fab hotel (to use your phrase) I would go elsewhere.
