anyone done the man to las vegas with a change in chicago is it worth saving 150 pp or should i go direct on the sunday, price for tuesday 308pp and sunday 488pp any advice plz

Haven't done that exact route, but we have done similar. As for whether it is worth it for the savings, different people will tell you different things. I assume that the flights are on the same carrier? Or are they different airlines? I ask because if you're talking MyTravel/Thomas Cook direct or Delta with a connection for example, it's not just the change that will make a difference to people in terms of what they consider 'worth it' - things like the layout of the plane, legroom, level of service, baggage allowance, etc. have an impact. So worth comparing apples to apples and all that. Also, how long is the layover in Chicago?

For us it's worth £150 pp to go direct...last time we went with a connection it took a grand total of 22 hours from check in at LGW to check in at our Vegas hotel. Will never do that again.

Others would prefer to save the £150 pp and put up with the connection. Some actually like the connection for the chance to get off the plane and stretch their legs for a bit.

However, based on what I have read about MyTravel flights, I would probably choose a major airline with a connection over direct with MyTravel if those were the options available to me. That's solely based on 2nd hand info though (and my husband who refuses to fly with them). :)

It really depends on what has value to you.

Can I ask you guys opinions on the following please, facilities & location.

    Stratosphere

    Imperial Palace

    Luxor

    Mirage

I can't really help on any of those as we've never stayed at any (been to all to visit though) but would suggest maybe looking at Bally's or Bill's. I would think that either would probably fall between the Strat/IP and Luxor/Mirage prices and maybe give you a middle ground. Personally I wouldn't even consider the Strat due to the location. If you don't have high expectations then IP will probably be just fine and it has a great location and loads in the area - I wouldn't say I like the property, but if the price was right it would be sufficient I think.

  • Hi, could do with a little advice/clarification please. Am thinking of a 3 week tour of S california in May with one week in an RV, one week LA and the other one Vegas and surrounding areas. I am a single mum with two children aged 7 and 10 and they both want to go to Vegas.

I am slightly worried about what I've read on this thread about children not really being encouraged. Is it child friendly bearing in mind that I am not really into the gambling thing myself and won't be worried about staying in with them each night. We enjoyed Dubai and I thought it might be similar in that it's spectacular but soul-less tho good for a few days luxury at an affordable price.

Its a good thing you are not in to gambling as you will not be able to, unless you leave your kids on their own!!!!!! Under 21s are not allowed to loiter in any casino and WILL be moved on by security within seconds if you stop in a casino.

Having said that there are plenty of things for kids to do outside of the casinos.

We are taking our 4 year old daughter to Vegas in March. We are staying at the Desert Rose Resort. This will be our third visit and her second visit there. We have bought 2 books from Amazon which are specially written for families visiting Vegas. There are plenty of things to do in Vegas for families. A lot of which are free. We did not have any problems on our last visit and saw lots of other children when we were there.
  • Great. Thanks for the tips. I will have a look at Amazon for Vegas and also for the rest of the trip. I quite like a bit of a flutter but understand that it won't be possible but was hoping there were lots of things for the kids to see and do that made a trip worthwhile. We are big Ocean's 11 fans so we are hoping to stay at the Bellagio.

Bellagio is probably the least family friendly of all of them. i don,t even think under 16's are allowed on the property , unless they are guests, have adults in tow, and show room keys to whoever challenges them .....sorry

you do know that Circus Circus has a RV park ?

i assume the flights are all under one ticket. i.e you not booking with seperate airlines for each leg, as that could get you into some very serious hassle if things go wrong. not done indirect to LV but 150pp would worth the direct flight if it were me .
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

hello flights booked ages ago at a bargain price of £321 each direct with BMI from manchester for 12 mights.
Hotel booked a while ago staying at NY NY at a price of $109 a night so with the taxes comes to $1438 so I think I got a good deal.
Anyway my question is we may take 3 days out and hire a car, so if we cancel some nights at NY NY towards the end of our holiday will we still get the other nights at $109 a night as they have now gone up considerably to an average of $169 a night.
we are thinking of giving up 5 days 3 of which to go out of vegas then returning, but to a diferent hotel for 2 nights before we fly home.
    thanks for your help

Thank you. What a mine of information you are. Would never have even thought anywhere would be RV friendly. Think the Bellagio has to be done even if they are positively hostile as we cannot visit Vegas and not stay there for one night at least. I will investigate the RV park and see if that will fit in with our plans. So exciting. Just got confirmation from school it is ok to take them out, so I can book flights now!!:T

You should be OK I think - unless it was some special 'stay X nights and get Y nights free' sort of deal which averaged out to the daily rate you quoted...probably the best thing to do would be to call and say that your plans MAY change and you MAY need to cancel the last 5 nights and ask if that would impact the rates for the rest of the nights. I would be surprised if it would, but would hate to mislead you.
