  • Everything went as clockwork, all we had to do was hop on a tram to the next terminal. Just had time for a pint and a browse in the newsagents for a magazine before we were called for boarding. Think we landed slightly early back in Manchester too.

    HELP MEEEEEEEEE.

I've got 19 Apr till up to and including the 5th of May off work. I AM GOING TO LAS VEGAS with a friend woohoo But.... Ive spent ages looking at price comparison sites and reading threads and I got such a bad headache. I definately want to be on the strip and Im looking at expedia I dont want to spent more than £700 really per person for 2 weeks flight and accomodation. Is expedia the best place to look? Shall I just book the cheapest strip hotel because I doubt I be spending much time in it anyway, can u go in all the other hotels for free?

IS there anything else I can go to save money? My dad says just book the cheapest flight and pay for the hotel when I get there ???? That sounds risky to me.

If your dad is advocating turing up without a hotel booked and paying when you get there...DONT, having said that it can work but much better IMO to book before you go using any of the deals you can find on the links posted on the first page by tretts.

You may struggle to do 2 weeks on strip for £1400 for 2 unless you can get £300 flights. If you want to be centre strip in lets say the Flamingo you may have to pay an average of $100 a night which is about half you budget and you could pay more than that for some of the better hotels.

It is up to you to check package prices with booking direct ( I have never done a package to Vegas)

Yes you can go in all the hotels in fact the hotels/casinos go out of their way in gimmicks to get you in THEY WANT YOUR MONEY.

you are so right re - how they want your money!

I've been lucky enough to go to Vegas a few times thru various routes - driving in, flying in. Have never booked a package - am not saying that is right because its best to compare.

I did find that if you find a hotel/s that you'd quite liike to stay in, contact them via the internet or phone them. Phoning is one of the best ways - but only if you've got a phone company that gives you free calls to the States!
    All hotels have websites.

Re the heat -didn't mean to scare anyone last night!!

Even tho it was v hot - its not like UK equivalent. Plus the air con out there is brilliant, just go in any shop/hotel and it will be cold! And there is all the pools to lounge in/on - my joy was finding the wonderful float beds - much better than our lilo's!:D

  • Allo all, I'm looking to book flights to Vegas ASAP for the Calzaghe vs. Hopkins fight. Travelling Thurs April 17th, returning Mon 21st.

I'm prepared to travel from anywhere in UK but expect to leave from London.

Best price I've found is £350. Any advice or tips anyone?

    Cheers.

Just a note about phoning the hotels, I often phone them to, but you dont need free phone calls...you can pefix the number you are calling (look on the international call checker on the phones page on this site.) and it will only cost you from 0.5p a minute. I always use telesavers at 1p per minute.

  NEVER FIND A HOTEL WHEN YOU GET THERE !!!!!!!!!!!

besides the fact that you must have your first night booked and declared on your Visa Waiver form, walking in off the street will see you paying rack rate for the room which is pretty much the most you can end up paying.

get some quotes from expedia and opedo ect and then see what you can get by booking it all seperate.

£700 for 2 weeks on the strip is pushing it. like photome said your going to have to bag some very cheap flights on top of a fantastic deal from a lower end property. searching a price compare site has never found me the best fare . your better checking out here if you don,t mind indirect http://www.airline-network.co.uk/index.asp and going into the bestbuy (las vegas link) section. or try calling Dial a flight . and when you have done all that, go to all the airlines direct.

if your prepared to risk it you might bag a thomas cook flight direct , if your prepared to hold your nerve and chance a late booking. it has yet to be seen how the change from My Travel to Thomas cook will effect doing this. but you could look back to the old thread for an idea of what they were going for last year. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=338730

if your prepared to stay downtown or off strip you will find cheaper rooms .

going through a agent is the lazy way , you will most often beat thier prices by doing the legwork yourself. but it does take work.

if it is direct book it , no question.

Virgin money and miles fare = £338 + the miles (approx £35) . but means leaving on either 14th or 15th on returning on the 23rd.

see post # 5 for the rundown on money and miles fares
i want to know is on the onward flight from chicago do ijust get an economy seat and what about my luggage allowance will they still let me have 2 cases upto 63kilosmand whats it like getting the connections thanks for any replies

no issues with your luggaue allowance ,your allowance is for the entire flight till destination. we flew Manchester to Boston with a connection in Philly last year and back via washington to heathrow and we used our full baggage allowance on all 4 flights. coming home you lugguage will be checked to your UK airport, going out you will have to collect your bags in Chicago and re check them for Vegas , after immigration and customs. you then have to go through security again .
i assume your looking at BMI for this flight. be sure there are no direct seats available 1st.

when we twilight checked in for our direct BMI from manchester in Dec , the couple behind us were on the non direct via Chicago because they had been told by thier travel agent the direct was sold out. it wasn't the check in staff confrimed as much and there were empty spaces on the flight over ( i know because me and the wife , had 2 seats each.:D ) . however they would not let him take the direct flight

the connection from Chicago may not have Premium economy , you will need to call them about this. i'm in no rush to do a complicated connection again, in Philly all you did was hand the suitcases to a well built youth who put them on a conveyer with 100's others . i was covinced we would get to Boston and find no bags ,but they were there :o . just don,t surprised if you bags beat you to Vegas , if they get stuck on the connection leaving before yours.
of course! If you want to talk about the highest recorded ground temperatures Furnace Creek once recorded a temperature of over 200F while the highest recorded "proper" temperature there was 134F

Not suprisingly i have been reading up on Death Valley temps and weather ect. this link has some intresting facts

    http://ask.yahoo.com/20050712.html

it is hard to imagine that i might not be able to go through the mountains to Death Valley from Yosemite , because they road maybe snowed in upto May , yet in Death Valley i may be in 100C temps. just to experiance that kind of heat for a day would be a great after dinner story
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:
  • Hi Guys,

We've been looking into the accomodation side of things since I booked the flights.

Can I ask you guys opinions on the following please, facilities & location.

    Stratosphere

    Imperial Palace

    Luxor

    Mirage

I could spend days trying to research each, to us they all seem nice, the botton 2 are a bit more expensive. Thing is are they worth it?

    All opinions welcome.

    Thanks
  • What is the style while in Vegas? I know there's going to be loads of walking, so comfy shoes are a must! But what do most people wear during the day, and in the evening.

Is there a dress code for the casinos? What about the nightclubs?

Sorry if these seem vain, or silly but I like to travel light. Don't want to be lugging load of clothes that I'll not wear! Need plenty of room in case to bring more home!

    Going 16-23 March - what's temperature like?
