If you have booked directly with the hotel then you can cancel and get your deposit refunded. Or you can just call them up and ask for the lower rates.

However if you have booked it as a package or through a 3rd party website then you are stuck with the rates you booked at.

thanks for the reply - unfortunately we bookied via ebookers - do you think we can still ring and ask for the lower rates?

last time i went, i bought a nintendo DS lite and about 5 games, along with a few other clothes and just ended up collapsing the cardboard box and putting it in the suitcase, and playing the DS lite on the plane... as others have said - all was fine.

certainly this time we went with 3 suitcases and came back with 4 (and i know we weren't the only ones!)... if they wanted to monitor things more strongly they could :)

If it's an EEE you're after, i think they are still quite hard to get hold of over there... i 'whipped' mine out in our SF hotel and the bell boy and check-in clerk(?) creamed their pants going on about they'd never seen one 'in real life' before and they were dead hard to get hold of...

    Thanks everyone for the replies!!
As for the clothes, I don't have that much spare money after booking this trip!! so I am sure I won't be as conspicuous as someone returning with 4 cases!! and the 145£ limit might not be that tight for me.
Yes, nvh, we have been looking for the eeepc or the msi wind, which seem to be hard to find here. We want a 10', but are trying to secure one before we go for our in-flight entertainment, so it might not even be a problem.
And as for the games, thanks for the advice. we were looking for wii games, which are so expensive here, even second hand. But we might as well not risk it.

well finally booked myself a room for Vegas in August.

MGM - Bungalow King Suite for 4 nights at a total of $431.64 after taxes.

Deposit was for first night only and can be refunded so I'll still be following this thread and travelzoo etc for any offers to see if anything better can be had.

Problem though has been there being a convention from Aug 10-13th and we're there from 10th-14th.

Just ask the taxi driver to take the shortest route.....show him a $20 and tell him whatever the cost of the trip he's getting it so the less the route costs the more tip he gets

Guarranteed he'll take the shortest route

Agree with TangoBunny - but would specify if you want the cheapest or the quickest route - sometimes the long way around is faster, but more expensive as longer in distance travelled...personally, we want to get to the hotel as quickly as possible and will telll the driver to go the quickest route.

on the having enough space for everything you buy, we always bring a medium sized case packed inside a large case - so immediately upon arriving we have a large case left to fill. This of course assumes your baggage restrictions will allow it.

Also, we're back...3 nights is so very, very much too short.

Caesars is lovely, but we still prefer Ballys overall.

Virgin flight back was a bit of a nightmare - almost so much that I might *MIGHT* be tempted to consider indirect on another carrier or Virgin via another city. Flight out on Virgin via Chicago was fine but that was on an Airbus. It's the seat configuration via Gatwick that I can't deal with - usually lucky and get pairs at the back so have been somewhat spoiled...not this trip, and ended up paying to upgrade to an exit row (no PE available)...mistake...while the leg room was great for me, the a**e room was not - I have bruises on my (far too ample) hips from being crammed up against the solid armrests..and my husband had a window seat so one of his legs was blocked in by the door...live and learn.

Looking forward to October now when we take the in-laws for their first time.

Also looking forward to reading nvh's trip report, but I think a nap first as didn't get a lot of sleep on the plane. :)

When going to hotel i remember apart from the cab being filthy, he took us along the freeway. I had a feeling he'd ripped us off so did'nt give him much of a tip, the fare was nearly $30 from airport to Luxor. When going back to airport the cab driver took us a much quicker route and the fare was less than $12 and he got the change from $20. I will always give bigger tips if someone is honest.

Has anyone been stopped by the timeshare salesmen in Luxor, or anywhere else, could not believe how hard sell they were! Luckily my tiredness was'nt too bad and managed to escape them!

$30 to Luxor???? What a rip-off merchant!!!! We always make it clear to taxi drivers that we are Vegas veterans and know how much it SHOULD cost. Usually works for us.
