I'm going to Vegas for the first time in a few weeks and have read so much I'm not sure how I'm going to fit it all in!

Anyway does anyone know what the best rooms are in terms of position in New York New York? Think I'm going to have a crack at "asking" for an upgrade as well so any info on the hotel would be greatly appreciated!

we stayed in a standard room and it was fine . NYNY is smallish joint in Vegas terms (only a few 1000 rooms  ) so the walking is not so much of issue around the hotel.

Good places to eat there = Il forinia +Gondlazes Gondazes and America is good for late night dining . NYNY is one of the few casinos on the strip with no buffet

for drinking Nine Fine Irishmen is always a good bet, or the Times square bar with the duelling pianos. give Coyote Ugly a miss though

you can always pick up vouchers for 2 for 1 manhatten express rides and starbuck coffee.

Il forinia is fanatstic for Breakfast, it gets the excitment goinng being in a resturant where you can see and hear the casino floor, I love America its one of my fave coffee shops and my other favorite there is the Tropicana smoothy bar next to Starbucks by the entrance at the NYNY Bridge I cant believe how cheap they are and how quick the ice cream headaches kill any thought of the hangover.

I found that I did have a bit of trek to my room we were in the green building room was lovely and it was a corner so we looked down Tropcana Ave one way and the strip the other, we had the rollrcoaster in front of us and some people had said that the noise was an issue but we never noticed it.

There is a dela here that gives you a free room upgrade at MGM this is valid until the end of the year

We are Vegas 'veterans' I suppose, been 5 times since 2000 . Its a place that has so, so much to do and see you simply cannot only go once !!

As I am fairly new to this site, I dont know the rules regarding posting links, I see others have done so, so I will take a chance......

An absolutely priceless website is https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk you can review hotels, read other peoples reviews, research places to go, take a look at the forum on a particular destination etc etc etc. Vegas has one of the most popular forums, filled with a massive amount of information, both moneysaving wise ;) and moneyspending wise

My favourite place to visit worldwide is the USA and Vegas is my favourite part :rotfl:

I almost forgot......... Vegas travellers are renowned for attempting the $20 check in trick....

Basically, on check in you are required to hand over your ID, usually your passport for us Brits. Slip a $20 note in the back, by your picture page, and casually ask if there are any room upgrades available. You will be suprised how many times you are upgraded from a standard room to a suite :T:T

Of course some of the Vegas hotels are wise to this now and may refuse your $20, but they will give it you back politely !! Win win situation and if you dont ask you will definately not get a free upgrade. Success rates sem to be approximately 75%.

https://www.fatwallet.com has all the info, go to their travel forum and search for the thread 'Las Vegas front desk tipping' ........ you cant miss it, its currently 79 pages long.

If you have booked directly with the hotel then you can cancel and get your deposit refunded. Or you can just call them up and ask for the lower rates.

However if you have booked it as a package or through a 3rd party website then you are stuck with the rates you booked at.

We got cheap tickets by simply buying them on the their own website. I think we paid $28 each in April. There are 2 things to tell you about 6 flags, 1 it is far outside LA, about an hours drive past Universal on one straight road. 2 you have to be a bit wary of the LA gangs that hang out there. You have to go through metal detectors to get in, and where as in Britain you might stare and laugh at our little gangstas walking around in their hoods and such, DO NOT stare or point at any of these kids, they are very dangerous. Don't let this put you off as 99% of people that go there are fun loving youngsters, just a word to the wise thats all.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

    Hi,

I need some help, please. With the strong pound and euro :j against the dollar, I am already browsing through macys.com and dillards.com (which are on the shopping centre near the Wynn, can't remember the name) for bargains. And everything seems like a bargain compared to prices here in the UK. However I know there are import restrictions...

Can any of you give more info on these restrictions? For clothes, I plan on just removing the tags and making them look a bit worn. I laughed :rotfl:when I read nvh had only taken socks and tshirts!! I hadn't thought of that, I was worried I might not have space in the bag for what I bought - when the solution was to take an almost empty bag!!

What about fragrances and electronic equipment, such as console games? I might (might is the word) try to find one of those small laptops there, how about those?

All will be for personal use... But can you give some idea of what to expect? The other day as I was returning from Spain via Gatwick, a LV flight was retunring at the same time and I noticed the guys at the "nothing to declare" exit were gently "harrassing" the LV people. So, should I worry?

Its evry naughty but when I was young we travelled for 6 weeks round the West and South West USA we were on a very tight budget and we used whihc looking back probably constitutes fraud to get in for nothing. In the US travel agents get very good deals we got the ATOL number of the agent we booked with and then got some of those cheapo business cards printed from the machines with their address and ATOL ect and our names we presented these are 6 Flags (amongst othere places) and got in for free. I am not proud and it was nearlty 17 years ago
