When i was looking at flights for feb 09 as we're going to be travelling in feb 11, as a price guide, the business seats (are these first class equivalent on BMI?) we are wanting to get, were about £4500. Then when i looked on BMI a few days after finding this thread, the flights had gone up by nearly £20001 Is this due to loads of people booking, a limitied special offer or is £6500 the correct price. I'm putting money aside to pay and if £6500 is the standard price without special offers then i'm going to have change my saving plan.
Do you mean that you found the £4,500 on BMI? If so my advice is to look at Virgin Upper from Heathrow to Los Angeles or San Francisco and get a connecting flight for the other hour trip. That would almost certainly cost you about half of the price you are being quoted now. The reason I suggest gong indirect is the plane from Gatwick that goes to LAS has only 14 upper suites and they sell out all the time, and when they don't the price is always in the £4,500 mark. Now going from LHR you have 46 upper suites
holiday025.jpg and of course the wonderful clubhouse, better food than I have ever eaten in any restaurant, we always arrive really early for our flight and try to spend at least 2 hours in there, OH has her hair done, i have a wet shave, we enjoy the plunge pool, there is even a guy upstairs in the sky lounge that will give you free lessons on a Gibson Les Paul!!!

The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Thanks again Stoneman, my wife is only wanting to fly direct, we live in Glasgow so I think Manchester is the easiest option. We flew virgin last time and we were not impressed, dirty flight, lack of drinks could'nt even got soft drinks, and the staff seemed more interseted in flirting with male passengers. I knoq i've got to find a happy medium between cost/time and what we want but unless we can get a direct flight from Glasgow, going from Manchester with BMI appears to be only option

Try American Airlines from MAN, we did business with them in April and they are very good, I have been business with BMI and I find AA better. you will have to change at Chicago but after 8 hours in a plane i am glad to get off and stretch my legs. the domestic part of the trip in first isn't as opulent but very nice all the same. If you do choose AA be sure to sign up for the Platinum challenge as it gets you loads of perks after just 1 transatlantic trip

Unfortunately only condition of going again (set by wife) is that we go direct. Hopefully by Feb 2011 there will be more/ better flights available. was my experience with virgin unique or is it standard service for them.

So far we've (3 of us) have booked the flight part and have been waiting nearer the time of our traveling dates for offers to arise to book accommodation.
The dates we are going are 16th Sept - 25th sept
I have heard that Ricky Hatton will be fighting within that period of our stay (not sure of exact date) and now worrying that hotel prices will rocket up?? Is this the case and should we be booking hotel rooms now??
Does anyone know if Ricky Hatton will be fighting between 16 - 24th sept?

A lot of the big hotels will let you pay a deposit - which is hte price of your first nights stay and if you cancel, as long as give them at least 48 hours notice you get a full refund. A friend I work with has a family member who does work with hattons website and as yet nothing seems to be confirmed, if i hear anything I'll post.

I have finally got Vegas sorted for this year, went for 14 nights last year for our honeymoon and had to go back. are going from 30 august for 14 nights (so will be there for labour day and the extra discounts at the premium shopping outlets) and staying at the mirage with a strip view, flying direct from manchester with thomas cook, and got train to manchester and overnight stay at the airport. fly out at 1pm and fly back at 6pm.

Have found out that the volcano is under refurbishment but can probably live without that. Does anyone know if there is anything new (or improved) on last august? Like a child we are already planning things to do?

    any help greatly appreciated

    Cheers

we flew direct last and premium class last year i think with thomas cook, they wanted an extra £500 in total for both of us for the premium upgrade, this year it was something like an extra £600 each, with virgin this was £1,500. have been informed that for their long haul services Thomas cook have increased the seat gap to 33 inches, which is only meant to be 2 inches shorter than a lot of the premium class (not as wide though i dont think)

    NVH,

Wow what a great trip report, thoroughly enjoyed reading all about your trip, thanks for taking the time to write it. Maybe we should be able to stretch out reports to include LA, quite a few of us combine the two together. I too did the night trip to Alcatraz, thought it was a fun idea.

    Thanks again.
