November/DecemberHi - just a quick note to say:
ORIGIN INDIA is so great!!
Highly, highly recommended...it will be hard to settle for our local stuff now.
We were planning on going there until Tony was hit with the "Killer Tomatoes" Are places serving tomatoes now. They were completely off the menu at most places from about 3rd June.
It is on our Must Do for November.0 -
I'm going to Vegas for the first time in a few weeks and have read so much I'm not sure how I'm going to fit it all in!
Anyway does anyone know what the best rooms are in terms of position in New York New York? Think I'm going to have a crack at "asking" for an upgrade as well so any info on the hotel would be greatly appreciated!0 -
OctoberWhen i was looking at flights for feb 09 as we're going to be travelling in feb 11, as a price guide, the business seats (are these first class equivalent on BMI?) we are wanting to get, were about £4500. Then when i looked on BMI a few days after finding this thread, the flights had gone up by nearly £20001 Is this due to loads of people booking, a limitied special offer or is £6500 the correct price. I'm putting money aside to pay and if £6500 is the standard price without special offers then i'm going to have change my saving plan.ACHIEVING THE AIM SINCE.........0

Save your money for Vegas gambling as its a reasonably sure bet that your Biz class seat won't work. On my recent flight at least 6 out of the 18 were not working including mine and the one next to me - crew had to manually pull one flat for me to sleep on and manhandle the other into an upright position for eating and semi reclined for lounging. Same thing with the guy behind
me.

MayThanks for all the kind comments about the virus I picked up, think it was more stress related than anything else. OK, here is a run down. Northwest Airlines are a pretty good outfit. Went from Heathrow via Detriot, newish A330 with seatbact video, recline pretty damn good, seat comfort excellent, FA's are just like any other airline, don't seem to give a damn. I have complained about Virgins crew in the past, but the last 2 trips have been with U.S. carriers and they are even worse. Transit at Detroit, complete s**t hole, had argument with a jobs worth about taking my wife through the U.S. line, pulled us out and made us go to the back of the foreign queue, only to be told by the supervisor that we could go back, of course ended up at the back of the line for U.S. only to see 4 people in front all with the green cards, go figure.
Stayed at Flamingo, $20 trick resulted in a mini suite as far away from the lifts as you could get facing the garden. Outdated bathroom, shabby wallpaper, and just not a nice room. Really had nowhere to go from there, couldn't complain because it was a comp upgrade, they said that they could always give us the room we had paid for.! Upgraded to a Go room for the last 2 nights at $40 extra, very nice rooms, plasmas in bed and bath, electric blinds, walk in separate shower, very nice. We went to the Go pool which guys have to pay $10 to get in , worth the money though, and also, they never ones checked anyone's room key, so you could use it even if not staying there.
Had a meal at the Steakhouse at Circus Circus, you should run from the casino to the restaurant if you want to survive all the kids running around and the noise of the circus acts was awful. the meal itself was a great disappointment, went for the prim rib on the bone, at 1 1/2 lbs. it must have been 2 " thick, but 1 Lb. of that was fat and bone, complained about half way though and was offered another cut as the waiter could see it wasn't right, but by that time I had seen enough cow to last a life time. My take is that that cut of meat should never have been offered in a place with such a good reputation to uphold. Tracy had chicken.
Another meal at P.F. Changs in planet ho, by this time the virus had set in so didn't eat much of it, but very nice and plenty for the money. the meal was a comp because of my craps play, but would have only come to $50 for both of us. tip, do not order more than 3 mains between 2 of you, you will take most of THAT home with you anyway. highly recommended, Tracy had the chicken. BBQ at Ellis Island was excellent as always, but had to wait over an hour for a table, Sunday evening and the locals were in town I guess, and at $8 for more ribs than you can possibly handle, who cares about waiting an hour, especially as the Amber beer is top notch and only $1 a pint. Tracy had the chicken.
Craps did well for me again with only 1 losing night in 7, made enough to pay for the hotel and all our spends, so the trip only cost us the airfare. Best night being the last where I made $500 from the first shooter, man was he hot, kept going for at least 45 minutes. as soon as he 7nd out, most players left, as well as me!! I like to play all the numbers across the top at £54 and $10 pass line with £30 odds behind, gives me a good return that way as long as someones doesn't crap out within the first 5 throws. Tracy played penny slots, and I think she found some chicken.
Trip home was nice an un-eventfull, stop over at St. Paul (can't spell Minneapolis) after a 2 hour flight from LAS. From there to LHR was only 7 1/2 hours, we slept most of the way with the seats having a nice recline and comfort, we always take 2 of our own pillows from home to make it more comfortable, the meal on the flight was surprisingly nice, I had beef in a red wine sauce, with asparagus and potatoes, nice crunchy side salad with dressing, followed by chocolate cake, Tracy had the chicken. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -
The $20 trick works not allways but it does work as long as you book the lowest level of room that you are prepared to stay it its worth a go. I actually think its the longer you are staying rather than the level of the resort $20 has worked for me in Wynn and Caesers just as well as Excalibur and Luxor.

So is the longer you stay, the more likely the $20 trick will work?0 -

Nope - its the other way round - the fewer nights you stay the more likely it is to work as the hotel wouldnt want to give away a suite for, say, 10 nights if someone else is willing to pay for it, whereas if you are staying one or two nights it makes sense for them to upgrade guests if the suite is due to be empty anyway.
Thats my hard luck really - when I tried a $50 at the Rio for our last 14 night stay they couldnt accommodate at all and basically laughed at the length of our stay. This year we are 9 nights at Orleans and 5 at Wynn - will try at both - Im hoping for the Wynn upgrade to either Panoramic View OR Tower Suite, but we'll see! Fingers crossed.

Can your husband pin point what set him off?
Selfishly - me and my other half fly next Sunday and would like to avoid getting ill if at all possible!
Are pizzas and mexicans off the menu then - ie tomato base etc..... I love my guacamole and salsa - the mexicans over there are one of the things I look forward to!!
