Thanks for all your feedback, i did see it on booking but reviews at Tripadvisor seem to think it was ok. Bit as fagin says, "Im reviewing the situation" :) .

If and when i cancel, i suppose i email them with bags of notice and i get the deposit back automatically?

It's normally 72 hours notice for full refund of your deposit - terms vary though but your reservation should have the info...there are some deals now that are non-refundable, but most of them are if you book direct with the hotel.

Sometimes you can view and cancel your reservation online, sometimes you have to call...not sure how it works with MC as we usually stay at Harrah's properties so I know their system best.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

    Hi all,

Can any one recommend a good street/road map for use in the strip area?

Also does any one know of any good web sites that i could practice slots on prior to going to vegas. When i went last time i played one called ( i think) Disco Steve, I won all the light and alarms went off and i didn't have a clue. Would like more of a heads up this time. And no it was not a big win, $200 i think :)

    Cheers

    Steve

If you need the map when you get there then pick up a whats on magazine, that has a great map in it. If you want one before you go hav a look on http://www.cheapovegas.com/index.php loads of info and maps on there.

    Hi again everyone

I've had a look at flights and the best I can find right now is £421 with NWA (we flew with them last time and were perfectly fine), I just wanted to know if this was a reasonable price to pay as before I had only booked through expedia or lastminute.com so don't have an idea of flight costs.

We have also looked at the possibility of flying to LA, spending 2 nights there and then making a road trip to Vegas for a week. Would be interested to hear from anyone who has done this before? All in all the flights work out £20 more expensive but I like the idea of a road trip!

    Cheers

I have driven it a few times but wouldnt call it a road trip, it is a boring 5/6 hour drive about 300 miles with only (barstow I think) inbetween. I dont mind the drive, but it certainly isnt on a tourist/scenic route. You could always fly for about £25 a head.

Of course you could extend the road trip with a stop over but to get to anywhere, ie yosemite would add a lot of miles. from memory i think death valley would be your most direct scenic route.

As ferf says check your terms, if it is 48 hours then there is no need for bags of notice, If you can cancel it wont be more than 72 hours. I have been to Vegas with bookings for hotel later in the 2 week period and not cancelled till I have got there.

I usually cancel via their booking systems, usually a link, or I ring them not forgetting the prefix so it is only 1p per minute

last year i would have said a tad expensive , this year  it may be very reasonable what with the huge fuelsurcharges you are reading about in the papers.

LA is a place you should visit once in your life , death valley is a fairly sizable detour , but we enjoyed our time there.
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

If you've never driven through the desert before I think you have to do it at least once in your life. Leave LA on then I10 heading East, take a slight detour to Palm Springs, you should come across a huge field of wind towers at some point. Then head North on the 62 towards Twentynine palms, stop here & take the scenic loop through Joshua Tree NP, it's incredible. Make sure you stop, get out of the car, switch off the engine & listen to the sound of absolute peace! I'd recommend stopping overnight so you can catch the sunset in the park. Next day carry on the 62 east towards Vidal Junction, switch to the 95 North & keep going until you hit Vegas. It's one amazing long, almost straight road, you will see for miles in all directions. Quite unlike anything we have here & will remind you of lots of American movies.
    I loved it!:D

Thanks for everyone who responded to my post the other night.

It seems like ages away that we'll be in Vegas, a whole year to look forward to it and plenty of time to plan, replan, plan again, etc etc.

As for the advice already, i take on board the virgin 747 comments, but by the ned of the year i should have in excess of 100,000 flying club miles so would be foolish not to use them to subsidise some of the costs. At least i should have enough for an upper class flight, while the future mrs WestHamDaz can slum it in economy

As for our guests, we were plannig on giving the date to anyone who ancied coming over and let book their own thing and they can stay where they like and not feel they have to stay at the same place as us.

Our wedding is to be at the chapel of flowers up near the stratosphere i believe. So any reviews of that would be appreciated.

You'll no doubt see me pop up on here over the next few months once things start to take shape. the info on here has proved interesting and useful, long may it continue.

    many thanks
    D
You will be lucky to get an upper class ticket using miles, never any usually available when I have looked

Off to see Cher in concert in couple of hours, managed to get a Madonna ticket after queuing at MGM yesterday, thats on Nov 8th so will be busy if anyone going that weekend

Weather is great, not looking forward to coming back home tomorrow....

I have been told by three of my friends that "O" is simply stunning, and if I walk out of the theater and I'm not impressed...they will pay for my tickets! My one friend see'sa lot of shows and says that "O" is the best show he's ever seen in his life.

I don't suppose theres any websites that do promotional codes for show tickets? I guess they know they're going to sell out anyway, so they dont really need to lower the price for anyone - but its worth a try!
O is fantastic, I saw it again last night for the 5th time...I think its the best of the Cirque shows

If I was going to save £200+ I would go with the indirect flight, as long as the layover wasn't too long. Let us know who it's with and someone will be able to give you an idea of what they are like

Well I took the plunge last night and have booked a one stop effort with Air Canada via Vancouver. It came in at around £425 - or more importantly £300 less per person than the latest Virgin price I was able to obtain. There is a less than 2 hour wait at Vancouver and a 4 hour wait at Toronto on the way back.

Have also made a reservation at the Four Seasons - they currently have a 3 rd night free offer so it was 6 nights for the price of 4 (around $1200).

Thanks again for the feedback, I've enjoyed reading them all.

I finally booked our flights for next week...can't wait. Got a good price of £350 pp flying with US Airways via Philly with good connections.

Can someone please help me with packing? Its 4 years now since we travelled to the US and I have some questions about luggage.

What is the situation now on electrical goods. Do chargers, batteries and electrical goods go in suitcase or hand luggage and are their any restrictions on what you can put in hand luggage?

I also have a gas cylinder hotbrush, MP3 player and Nintendo DS which I would like to use on the flight (not the hotbrush obviously, where do these go.

Oh and my husband wants to know where we should put the kitchen sink....he thinks he's funny!!

    Can anyone help?
