Be sure to check the level of car insurance cover when booking a "fly-drive" option.
Some years ago I booked such a package and found out that the car had the minimum amount of insurance and to "upgrade" to the level which made me happy was a fair few dollars on top - about £60.00 in those days if I recall.
Thesedays I book a car myself but ensure the level of insurance included is up to par! They always try and cream a little extra off you when you arrive anyway "would you like tire insurance Sir?"
Always remember the small print is small for a reason!
Have a good trip!

From memory, its about £20 a day for "proper" insurance in USA these days......excluding Tyre Insurance and Breakdown Insurance was another one they tried on us.illegitimi non carborundum0

Hi
Flying from Heathrow to San Diego, 1 night in SD then onto LV. Looks like Excalibur at the moment. Back to SD for the airshow at Miramar (Top Gun base) for the final 2 nights. Got the Wife a ticket to see Manilow at the Hilton on the 1st Oct.
Gotta get to the Gun Store again though!
Can hardly wait!

I've read that the rooms with doubles have a golf course view - the strip view rooms are king rooms. I think they have almost 3000 rooms - they would be crazy not to have rooms with both types of beds.
They normally won't guarantee a particular bed type, but you can put it as a preference.
Edited to add I found a photo of a 2-bed room on tripadvisor.

Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Hey guys,
Not long till me and my partner go now (5th June), while we're there we want to go on a helicopter trip to the canyon and watch a show.
For the show im going to go to one of the half price outlets early morning but im not too sure what to do with the trip to the grand canyon.
As we're on a budget we'd just like to fly there, sink into the canyon and fly back. Hows best to book this? in advance or when i get there at a ticket outlet?0 -

don't get up too early - most (if not all) of the half price ticket boothes don't open until 11:30 - 12:00
...and from an earlier post on car insurance costs. A bog standard economy booked through dollar with their all singing dancing USA package cost us £105 last week for 7 days (booked in the UK on the UK website)..... so basically £15 a day0 -
Aprili forget that people will have missed the discussions we had on the My Travel "Fly Drive" deals. last year , so i think it is about time for a recap.
the most basic package that i price check each week only include flight and car hire. you can of course book a room with My travel ,but why would you want to when you will almost certainly find it cheaper on the links on post #1 ?
As for the Car hire you should be prepared to look elsewhere as you aren't really paying for it , they are waiting to sting you when you land for that.*Rental free car hire is included in all of our holidays, which includes basic third party/public liability insurance (supplementary insurance cover is strongly recommended)
here is the list of whats not includedState environment surcharge ($2.05 per car per day)
- Airport Handling Fee and Airport Operating Fee ($6.00 per car per day). The Airport Operating Fee also requires payment of an additional 10% on all options purchased
- Vehicle License fee of 3.5% and Rental tax of 6% applicable to West Coast USA.
- State Sales Tax of 6-7% on other taxable items of rental (excluding LDC)
- UMP - Under insured Motorist Protection ($5.99 per car per day). This provides up to $1,000,000 cover for bodily injury sustained whilst driving the rental car caused by an under insured/uninsured driver
- Optional LDC - Loss Damage Waiver ($19.99 per car per day). This covers all rental vehicle damage, regardless of fault. NB: without LDC cover, Dollar will require you to produce a credit card with at least $1,500 available credit. My Travel strongly recommends Prue-purchasing one of its insurance packages or taking this
- Fuel (approx $2.10 per gallon when purchased from a local gas station)
- Additional driver surcharge (from $6.49 per driver per day). Not applicable to West Coast USA.
- Under 25 years of age driver surcharge for drivers aged 21 to 24 inclusive (from $20 per driver per day)
- Child seats - a legal requirement for under W's (from $3.50 per seat per day)
- Toll charges (best keep loose change handy)
- Parking, hotel car parking charges and traffic fines
add that little lot up and compare against a all in quote from a Broker which can be searched at www.travelsupermarket.com which does not have nasty surprises when you come to collect the car. also don't forget most of the big casinos have a rental desk inside them ( usualy near check in) . so if you don't plan on using the car 1st night after a long flight you can collect it next day from your hotel , if you sort your own hire out . (also note above does not mention if there is any excess ? )
also buying your own insurance from somewhere like Insurance4Carhire won't work because they ( like Virgin holidays) have this nasty little clause buried in the small printDollar only recognizes its own insurance on Dollar Car Rental. Although you car hire agreement includes $1 million Third Party Liability coverage, it is vital you have adequate cover to protect yourself against severe financial risk in the event of total loss of the vehicle, damage or accidents, especially as some US drivers carry little or no insurance.
in short , we force you to buy our own overpriced insurance :mad:Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0
