    I've been Money Tipped!
    August
    Hi all,

Me and the good lady are off to Vegas 4-14 Aug.

We where waiting for airmiles to come through for use on a new card before we booked miles and money offer. Our staement came through with the miles but after ringing them it can still take another 30 days for them to be put on my account. As prices have risen i feel i have missed a trick whist waiting and i expect prices to continue to rise until the points are put on my account.

Also taking into account your comments on Virgin generally, i feel i should forget Virgin any way. ( I would fly from London BTW)

So i have been searching for the best deal i can get given the short notice and the grief on lack of progress fron the boss. ("are you sure you want to go she asks, why havent we booked!!!etc)

Any way i have found a flight with 1 stop with Delta for £530 each can any one do better for me. I rteally need so brownie points from the wife as i could have got direct flights for this money a month od so ago :(
Shhhhhhhhhhhh she doesnt know i have not booked the room yet

Thanks for any help you can give.

    Cheers

That doesn't seem like a bad fare for that time of year. I'm not a big fan of Delta personally, but that goes back to very poor service many years ago and I've avoided them since...so my impressions may be completely outdated.

as for the room, you know from this thread that there's not really any value in booking the hotel this early - but if you want to book something to keep her happy and then be the hero when you find something better much closer to the date to cancel and rebook, then go for it. :)

Gosh, that came up quick! I'm sure you'll have a great trip and it's a shame we'll miss each other by not very long....we do look forward to meeting up with you guys again next time our dates coincide. :)

It's quite scary how quickly it's crept up on us. I think we miss each other again later in the year too. I hope you two have a good time.
  • We are stopping over in Vegas for one night and then carrying on to Utah. I've been umming and aahing over which hotel to book for just one fun day and night. We will be 4 adults of varying ages and 2 teenagers.
We don't want to go to any shows, we just want to stay centre strip and wander about a bit.
It's August and will be boiling so a nice pool would be good for the kids. There are great offers at most of the hotels for the night we want- Aug 6th- so I was tempted towards the Bellagio for $149 but having read other reviews I now think the Venetian/Palazzo might be better.
Has anyone got a suggestion of what might suit us? We would all like to experience a bit of luxury that we can't usually afford.
If I opt for the Venetian/Palazzo option I was going to try Priceline (which I have used before for other cities in the US) as I think I have a decent chance at around $140.

With only one night, potential pool time will be limited to check in / check out times though you can sometimes work something out to use the pool before/after checking in/out.

We much prefer the Venetian pool area to the Bellagio, but if you are the sort of people that enjoy cold showers then the fountain pools at the Bellagio might be right up your street. For me they were far too cold until mid afternoon. Other thing that put me off the Bellagio pools was the actual number of loungers available. If you book in mid-afternoon the chances of getting several together is next to nil. Venetian also has quite a few smaller pools that are a lot quieter that we preferred.

I think the Bellagio is more central, and from what I've read on other boards, the pool area is nicer than Venetian/Palazzo.

But having said that, I haven't been to either because I'm too cheap. The personal experience (wdyw) is a more reliable indicator.

This may be interesting to some - airlinenetwork.co.uk's special offers for Vegas...might be handy for those who are fairly flexible. Obviously the deals available may be restricted to certain periods, but it's an interesting snapshot.

It shows destination city, departure airport, airline, price and departure months available.

    http://www.airline-network.co.uk/SpecialOffersGatewayWeb/Gateway.aspx?DESTAREA=NUS&DESTCOUNTRY=USA&DESTCITY=LAS&OFFERID=d826827f-4a54-4483-b3e6-96d072958e2b&CABIN=1&PREMIUMONLY=False

oooh, and I just noticed that if you click on one of the offers, then go choose your departure date, you can click around on various departure and return dates to see how the fare changes very quickly. Nifty.

have you also tried American airlines booking system. they have a handy desktop tool you can download and save routes too. then you know pretty quick if your fare has dropped . there is thread on this board about ways of manipulating the booking system.

also if Virgin Vegas cattle truck is way too expensive look into it's superior LA flights or look into the Air France flights to LA from Heathrow which seem to be very reasonable. one day in LA out of 10 would be okay if it were me. like i said i'm done with Virgins 747 and BMI will no doubt be very expensive for traditional summer dates .

Don't sweat about the Hotel , thats the easy bit. you should get a feel for what the prices are coming out at for your dates , then you will know a great deal ( or deals !! you can move hotels in that length of stay) when it appears .
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:
