Still more donations coming in; thank you. I had an email from BHF to say I was in the top 15% of fundraisers overall so I'm really chuffed, there were 1200 swimmers.
Today's flying:
- sat with Mum while she phoned through to order groceries. It is a new-to-her local service which we hope, if the quality is ok, will bring her one more step closer to independence. I didn't need to intervene at all, just to prompt her which number was the security code when she read out her card details. The member of staff sounded lovely - helpful and patient so mum could either order by item code (which she and I had written on her list) or by item type. The service is open to the general public but is one recommended by the stroke team so I think staff are well used to older customers. It will be delivered on Wednesday; first delivery is an unspecified time but if she decides on a weekly service, they will allocate her a day and 2hr time slot. They will also ring the bell and wait (not knock quietly then scarper before she has time to get to the door) and will bring the groceries indoors for her. I was really proud of her for doing it.
- I went to Mr L to get items not on grocery warehouse's list
- Mr N and I drove Mum up so she could say hello to her Pilates classmates at the end of the class and she did the 5mins stretch with them!
- Mr N then went home although has said he'll come back next weekend, for which I'm very happy and grateful
- done various amounts of washing up, tidying, finding lost stuff (Mum's handbag is a tardis)
Now going to do a bit of uni work (2 reports to write) and look up a couple of things mum needs on amaz00Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.6 -
Thanks for the good wishes in the previous thread. Well done @Narc0lepsy - a great result. And well done to @roundtuit on loosing all that chubbage. Have only had time to skim read so sorry if I missed anything important. This morning I took A for a turn in Kensington Gardens in the wheelchair. I stopped off at the local shops on the way back for a couple of bits and then came back and made lunch and WUPA everything. An Ocado order came and I put it away. They sent a substitution which I rejected but they haven't refunded me for that (only the bags I returned) so I shall have to go online to request that. He also gave me the wrong ice cream but fortunately I noticed so he went back to the van and got the correct one. Stoves still haven't got back to me about my query on which cooker knob to order (why does everything seem to be so difficult nowadays?). I watched a bit of tennis and then made supper and have just washed up.Tomorrow I will be busy as A's niece is coming over for a meal in the evening. I've delayed cleaning the kitchen and bathroom for a couple of days as I wanted it all to be fresh for when she came so tomorrow I will have to do both, plus hoover and tidy around and prepare the meal. I'm going to do my old faithfuls (the pork and sage casserole with crème fraîche and peaches stuffed with amaretti and poached in wine in the oven). I can't remember whether I gave her either or both of them last time she came but I don't suppose he can either. I also want to have my hair trimmed in the morning.A's friend from his school days, W, is having a visit from his late brother's partner, who is coming over from Canada any day. We've invited them over for lunch next week, plus W's partner, so I shall have to think what to do. There will be five of us so I shall have to try not to over-complicate things.

roundtuit said:@crazybunnylady4 - so sorry that I didn't acknowledge your post last week. Thank you for delurking. I'm very much a work in progress when setting boundaries. I think mine are made of electrified fencing! I set them, but if anyone pushes against them I zzzzap them. Verbally. Not using actual voltage of course. Oooo. That's an idea 🤣
Please do delurk and join us more often.

Might not just be my colleagues I use it on...might be the customers too 🤣🤣6 -
Morning all xx
@crazybunnylady4 ... hehe. It has been said that I can be a bad influence 😇 Variable voltage? From a slight zap to a massive ZZAAPP. Oh dear, my brain is already forming a hit list 🤣
Anyhoo. I'm up, made my bed, dressed, packed my lunch bag, eaten breakfast, completed Wordle and Connections, and supped a brew.
I'll feed the birds and put out the recycling before I set off to TT. And on my way home I plan to call at the PO to pay my rent and leccy bill.
Sounds like a plan.
Have a good day. I'm trying to work out if I need socks on....Will I regret wearing sandals I wonder? 🤔

Morning all. Hope you're all ok this morning and I trust that Round will have a zap free day.
I have only just got up after nearly 11 hours sleep which I definitely needed after yesterday. DGD2 was a nightmare in the morning. It was easier in the afternoon when both girls were here.
Anyway, today, I'm going to potter this morning, walk Poppet, go to exercise class later and try to enjoy the day as I'm back at the paid stuff tomorrow.
Have a great day everyone.Spend less now, work less later.6 -
Morning all. I have visions of round and CBL4 waving those tennis racquet-style fly swatters over their heads
CoG, simplification is definitely the way to go. If regular visitors enjoy your usual menu, make a note of it and give them more of the same next time - you are probably the only person who would cook that particular dish for them. If you make an alcoholic dessert, offer a simple non-alcoholic one as an alternative - I usually go for bought meringue cases with fresh fruit (think a pack of mixed berries) and cream or ice cream. Just remember that many of us oldies are on a certain type of heart medication which means that we have to avoid grapefruit!
Talking of hearts, that's brilliant news from the BHF, Narc0As a grateful beneficiary from cardiology research, I appreciate all your donors too. And as for your Mum's recovery, those are huge steps forward and show real determination on her part to regain her independence - no wonder you're proud of her! xx
This morning it's looking cool and grey again - definitely not shorts weather for anyone except posties. I took a hot water bottle to bed last night because it was so chilly, and like Jazee I've managed to catch up on a bit of sleep. I don't have a huge list for today: clean the downstairs windows on the inside, try out a new grooming brush on Rosie, tidy up the back yard, maybe dig a few dandelions out of the block paving at the front, update my ongoing to-do list, walk Rosie, and hopefully sort some photos. DH is off to SW this morning and to play trains this evening, so I will have the TV remote (daren't say "zapper" or round might take a swipe at it!) to myself, if I want it.
Pigpen, I miss your musings. Please send us a quick message to let us know that you are still around!
Have a good day, all xxx7 -
Morning all
slept well but managed to get some washing in on loo breaks. Kitchen still not right after Sunday but i’m at home today so should be able to sort it.
DW x 1 WM x 3
Another rat has been seen, by NDN. Not sure if it has made it through but I might empty shed and check. Lots to do…
ETA washing out on the lines - both pressed into use today, DW emptied, pots (from Sunday) now put away in various places though I need to get the step out to put the jug and the gravy boat away - DS was on 'reaching' duty on Sunday but of course he isn't here. WUALTD. Took out recycling, ironed what was waiting to be ironed, took rubbish out, lined bin, admitted, and paid, window cleaner. Put more recycling into sink to sort. Put clothes hangers away. Bagged up pots which need to go back to work (which were used to transport various leftover foods for composting (chopped herbs) or eating (strawberries)).
ETA (wow it's so quiet on here...) all washing dried and ironed, DD's wedding guest dress has been hand washed and has dried, last few pots from Sunday rehomed. House looks much clearer even though it's just involved homing stuff...just goes to show...Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

Hi all
Today has been a full on 8.5 hour day in the office for me with a 2 mile walk at lunchtime. Tomorrow I start my 6 week NHS stress management course, let's hope it helps. I have already learned that anxiety is a bit like a smoke alarm, sometimes it goes off when it shouldn't and some people like me have dodgy wiring!
Brought the washing in and I made our bed but that's been about it for Flying. Tired now. Need to make my lunch for tomorrow.6 -
Walked the dog, vacuumed the top layer, emailed a firm to say I'd like my money back because their cordless thingy is worse than useless while it's still under guarantee, showered and washed my hair, scrubbed the kitchen sink and all the gibble involved within an inch of its life, cleaned the breadmaker, countertop, and the cupboard under was emptied and washed out.Sat at my desk but the spirit was not in me so I wasted a couple of hours before throwing in the towel.I need to get this place spotless by mid-September so I'm going to have to do all the things I generally leave to another day / week / month / year / decade.Better is good enough.5

Have a good day, all xxxI like to ring the changes Ionafan - I used to do all sorts of things, and experiment a lot, but my 'repertoire' is much smaller now. I'm not really happy about that as I don't want to give up and just say 'oh well life's difficult now so just take the easy option'. My whole world has shrunk and in so many respects I'm just treading water, so to speak, which is not how I used to be and not how I want to be. I have to try and fight against it, even if it's just in small ways, such as entertaining to a good standard. For next week's lunch I just have to be imaginative so that I can do something that looks and tastes nice but is manageable. Unless it's cold I'm thinking of having Iberico ham which I will fold in the centre of a large white plate and then place 3 large red chicory leaves at 10, 2 and 6 o'clock, with slices of pear in between. I will sprinkle some walnut pieces and Roquefort and then drizzle with balsamic vinegar. It sounds more like the sort of thing you would have for a first course but I could serve some fresh broad beans and Jersey Royals on the side, and maybe some Waitrose celeriac remoulade, to make it more substantial. It would be fairly quick and easy to prepare but look and taste good I think.I'm not sure about pud - I will need to give that more thought. I can't do anything involving meringue, fruit and cream, delicious as that is, as one of our guests often does that for pudding when we go to him. I never buy grapefruit as it clashes with so many meds. As for alcohol though, all our guest most certainly drink! This morning I went to the barber and had my hair trimmed and called in at the butcher to collect the diced pork I'd ordered. I came back and the Waitrose order had already arrive so I put that away and then cleaned the bathroom and kitchen, including bleaching the sink and washing up pad, and tidied the sitting room and vacc'd everywhere. I made lunch and WUPA everything, made the pudding for supper, took down a bag of rubbish and a bag of recyclingand watched a bit of tennis and then made the casserole and prepared the veg. A's niece came at 6.30 and we had a nice meal and I've now broken the back of the washing up - just a bit more to do before I go to bed.6
