Entirely through their app. Efficient. Took a couple of days for ID approval etc. I really don't bother with the old-fashioned way of sending stuff through the post any more like Cahoot. If they're that inefficient setting up the account it doesn't augur well for me.

I persevered for a second go at setting up accounts for myself and my wife. That was days ago. Still waiting for the two letters to arrive by post to activate the account so I gave up the will to live and binned them both. Horsed into Monument Bank and SAGA instead.

Monument is my absolute favourite for day to day use. It's so user friendly and truly instant. It's a pity that their rate for existing customers is so poor at the moment (3.52% AER) but even then I still keep a bit of money in it as it's just so convenient.
Just to note, when I opened the account originally, their policy was to close any account after a while if the combined balance fell below 25k but when I spoke to them a few months ago, they confirmed that they no longer close accounts for that reason.

It has just been announced that bank rate has been maintained at 3.75%
Bank Rate maintained at 3.75% - September 2026 Monetary Policy Summary and Minutes
At its meeting ending on 16 September 2026, the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) voted by a majority of 6–3 to maintain Bank Rate at 3.75%. Three members voted to increase Bank Rate by 0.25 percentage points, to 4%.
Next decision Thursday 5th November 2026 (expect fireworks)

I think it is fairly likely that it will rise to 4% on 5th November. The Fed raised US rates yesterday.
