You are right - after a search it appears that closing a browser does not automatically log out of internet banking. However, how is a user supposed to logout if the website is stuck on an error page with no 'Logout' button and no indication that he/she is currently logged in?

From the Tesco Bank FAQ "As a security measure, we'll log you out of Online Banking if you've been inactive for 5 minutes."

In such a case I'd use the browser settings to clear browsing data, which in firefox you can do for specific sites if you wanted to keep data for another site active. You can also set firefox to clear such data each time you close the browser.

Close that tab, then try to log in again. If you're still logged in, you'll be straight in and can log out properly, if not, you should be able to log in, then out, to be sure. In any case most (all?) banks log you out after a period of inactivity

I already had Firefox configured to delete all cookies on exit. It does not help.

I already tried that; the website goes through the full login process, even though I was unknowingly already logged in. Hence it fails in the same way i.e. it ends up displaying the 'Something's gone wrong' error.
Before the error message is displayed, there is a blank page with a small rectangular window containing another error message. The page only appears for a few milliseconds so it's impossible to read.

It works with duckduckgo

@dosh37 whilst I understand your frustration and wish to resolve these issues, this thread is about the top easy access accounts themselves, rather than technical issues with a particular banking website. It might be better to create a separate thread on this topic as it would be applicable to anyone who uses Tesco Bank, not just those who have their easy access account, thereby getting quicker resolution to your issue? 😊

It also works with MS Edge and probably Chrome. I want to use Firefox.

I have just tried logging in again (twice) using exactly the same procedure as before with the same Firefox settings. It is now working as expected.
A Google search indicates other people have reported similar intermittent behaviour with Tesco Banking in the past when using Firefox.
My guess is that if you try to login to Tesco Banking when already logged in (e.g. if the browser was closed without first logging out) , then the system tries to open a Cookie that was saved at login time. However, if your browser is configured to delete cookies on exit then the system fails in such a way that you are unable to continue to your accounts despite the fact that you are already logged in.
I would report this to Tesco Banking but they don't provide a Customer Service email address. The Customer Service advisors who answer the phone don't have the time or expertise to investigate these kind of issues.
