Our neighbour does this with all sorts of garden junk. They also burn stuff in their BBQ! Dread to think what a mess it makes of the blade edges of the mower. They just stick it in their general waste bin as they are too tight to pay for a garden one.@greenbee I saw a trick the other day. Put your green bin waste on the floor, run over it with the lawnmower a few times without the collection basket on it, then use it with the collection basket on to collect it and put it in the bin. I watched a green bin full reduced to a basket full.

Moved the green waste bins to the front - will see whether I can top them up before they are collected. The stuff I have to get rid of is far too bulky for the mower. I just need to work out how to get the stuff out from under all the soil, and then stick the soil somewhere in the garden (there's a double hedge at the back where I store rubble, bricks and roots of grubbed up shrubs, so it could go there). I just get annoyed when I pay people to do work for me that ends up making more work for me... a bit like the electricians and plumbers who apparently 'cleaned up' after themselves last week and this week...
Other than that, today's gardening will be offloading more tomatoes on neighbours. I need to get a lot of dust out of the house and get some work done. And hopefully get some gardening done at the weekend as my seedlings are outgrowing their seed trays again, but not big enough to go in the beds yet.3 -
Re water butts - they are available for free through some water companies. Check where your company has some bumpf about water saving devices. Our big butt had sprung a leak so I applied and got a replacement for free. I've had a look again a couple of times but I think there's something on the sites that clocks you're had your 1 freebie so getting another isn't offered as an option. When I did get the freebie the website said that delivery might take up to 12 weeks but mine was sitting outside my front door within about 2 weeks. I think it depends on time of year and how many in your area have ordered one.
So we now have 2 big butts in the back (snigger) connected so the first overflows into the second but will also flow back down the drain when it's truly torrential. And we have 1 slim one in front for the few pots that are out there and to give some of the other plants a drink when it's dreafully dry.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Pots have been watered - except the greenhouse which I will do in a mo. Slimy critters have nibbled a cucumber seedling and 2 pumpkin seedlings 🙄 The pots have been checked & moved into the greenhouse. I may sow some more tomorrow (variety, baby boo, which is a small white one)
The bin men missed my green bin yesterday (despite me paying extra for the privilege!). I reported the missed collection at lunch time and it was emptied within a few hours. It would be a lot more efficient to just do it the first place!! Oh well, at least I can fill it up again this weekend 🙂
I also need to feed my lemon tree & water the house plants. I may do that now before it gets dark 👍3 -
Nearly the weekend - hurrah! I suggest:
1. Multiples of 15 minutes on the basics - watering weeding, tidying. Have a walk round - where needs in the most? Can you nip some flowering weeds off before they bloom?
2. 15 minutes on this season productivity or pretty things such as adding some seeds, planting out veg, hanging baskets or pots, etc.
2. 15 minutes progress on your longer term aims. Painting fence panels like @Sun_Addict ? Laying another row of tiles on the patio like @Cheery_Daff

Well, inspired by this thread gardening has happened.
i have started treating weeds in paved areas with v hot water and salt. I can’t use weed killer as my rabbits run free. Little plantains near my back door have withered…back ‘lawn’ mowed but a damp section has been strimmed and left to dry, hopefully if we have a dry warm day i can run over again and pick up the loose grass. i also strimmed the long neglected veg plot, which gets treated to cardboard boxes from time to time in the hope of suppressing the grass.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

I've finished the tiles of my patio 😃 Really pleased with myself for doing this in little bits of time around other activities, half an hour here, an hour there, 15 mins another time.I still need to put big stones round the edge, and sort out the rest of this little space, which is filled with roof tiles and weeds.
Not today though. In little slots over the weekend 😊12 -
Hello Valli! You may remember my hex flylady credentials which go back many years to the earliest threads when infamously once I had the whole house tidy at once, despite two toddlers, ready to sell it. Fond memories of dusty kitten, chamichelle, juliejim, lilme, mrs chaos, triker, and toots and many others. I never applied it to the garden though. The salt and water thing I had read about but not tried. I must give it a go.
cheery, love the patio. We have some inherited quarry tiles too and I'm thinking maybe a one person sit spot by the polytunnel. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

I love that patio, @Cheery_Daff, and your beautiful stone walls. I'm guessing that was built over many years from the way it slots together?I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
