Happy 1st June, turtles!
Thanks for the new challenge starlight.
I’ll be on holiday for 2 weeks of June and will be aiming to stick within the holiday budget. But I’ll take part in this month’s challenge as much as I can. I’ve been a little loosey goosey with our finances the last couple of months but I can’t afford to lose focus now. We’re on the final leg of paying off the mortgage. The goal is to clear it by next August - before OH and I turn 40. But we’ve got a big target to save for - with ninja turtle focus we can do it!
SO with that:
1 The challenge runs from 00.00 on June 1st and ends at 23.59 on June 30th.
I’ll be taking part in the 16 days I’m not on holiday.
2 You will aim for 15 Spend Free days (medical, travel and ys spends are exempt)
I’ll aim for 8 - half of the days I’m at home in June.
3 Take time to set your budget, thinking ahead to plans for the month, and stretching your outlook ahead to the summer holiday months if these affect your day to day life.
Budgets set for our holiday and I have been putting a little aside each month for the actual summer holidays. I’m reluctantly taking on full time at work to help employers out with a new project. Thankfully it’s only temporary until March next year. Sadly I’ll need to give up my volunteering at the school during that time. On a positive it does mean a little more income which I won’t complain about - it will all be going to mortgage overpayments.
4 Pay to debt or savings first. Do something beyond payments this month to help you understand your debt or your savings goal, like working out dates for milestones, or accurate costs, or scoping best rates.
No debts apart from the mortgage. Savings for overpayments are in the monthly budget. I know the amount I need to save and by when, but I’m going to break this down into smaller chunks to make it less daunting - set a monthly target.
5 Do something each day to benefit future-you. This might be setting out clothes to avoid decision making first thing in the morning, or making that health appointment, or doing a task that dwells in your mind and drains you, or booking some time out.
Will do. There’s a few! I’ll make a list.6 Do something each day to benefit you-in-the-moment. Exercise, meditation, a healthy meal, a rest, a good book, a natter with a friend, drinking enough water
All of the above!
7 Think about the community and causes that matter to you, and how you might further their endeavors this month. What are the ways you can do this without becoming overwhelmed?
XXX8 If in UK, register to vote, and organise a postal vote, if it makes it more likely you will have your say. All the votes add up, no matter how dispirited you are.
I will be having my say!

First day of June will be a NSD as DS1 tested positive for the 'vid yesterday. None of us are going anywhere, DS1 is in his room, and we are hoping he keeps his germs to himself. I keep being told DS4 is in and out of his room though. Not impressed.Volunteering has been cancelled for next week.Very grateful to Mrs Tray, who invented the flat surface for leaving food on unattended outside bedroom doors. Well done Mrs Tray. You are being praised in our house.DS3's GCSEs are still in full swing, until 15th June, an exam nearly every day.Don't forget to do a meter reading, because the new lower rate starts from today.Happy June Folks! Summer starts here.

Walked to Aldi and back, Just about a mile, Only needed tomatoes and olives for a Greek salad but bought some cornflakes for the food bank.
Healthy eating - fruit and yogurt for breakfast, Greek salad for lunch and pork chops with a small portion of garlic potatoes and green beans for dinner, Trying to avoid the lemon tart that is in the fridge but I don't know what we are going to do with it if we don't start eating it.
Planted up some containers with plants that I picked up in Aldi. My wee container garden is looking really sorry for itself. It needs a wee bit of TLC.
Himself is watching the football tonight so I think I'll have a little TLC myself. xxxHave adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.11 -
Afternoon allJust spoiled a NSD by ordering OH some new trainers, as he has broken his. Oh well, if they don't fit I will send them back and reclaim the NSD.Not done much today, as I was tired after work and dealing with my brother. I did go through my clothes drawers though, as they were difficult to close and therefore annoying. Now there is a carrier bagful of items for the textiles collection at the supermarket. Also did a load of washing and got it dry outside in the chilly wind.Went to see my brother, who is having a better day today. He didn't have much to say - maybe because OH was there, or maybe he is up to something. I hope not, but he has form.Just about to start dinner, which will be a frittata as we seem to have lots of eggs.Grateful for good drying weather, though less chilly would be good, bearing in mind it is June now, for OH helping out and for clothes storage that is now easy to open and close!8

Evening turtles, woke in the middle of the night with a horrendous headache, painkillers didn't shift it and I was on call this morning. So glad I wasn't called in, was able to relax on the sofa until I felt better. Finally wore off about midday so I put a couple of loads of washing on, cleaned my aquariums and cooked some simple lunches for the week ahead.
Having to use some downtime gave me a bit of time to think about various things, have definitely decided to turn down the job offer I've had as it's not right for me. I'm going to try and get some volunteering off the ground this month too. I also have to make some changes to my diet, got some medical results this week and my choice is either to stay on medication that has some nasty long-term side effects or change my diet, so I know which I'd rather! Am already vegetarian and use alternative milk, and am aiming to be mostly vegan by the end of June. Not going to throw out the food I already have but will phase it out once it's gone. Let's see how it goes.Save £2,400 tuition fees - £2,321.04 as of 08/24
Pay off credit card by December 2024 - £1,450/£2,00010 -
Today I am grateful for a good sesh at the gym, for finding the right sort of wood for a small project, for friendly neighbourhood cats, for getting my (self-imposed) quota of marking done, for the new hair dye working really well - I am thoroughly pink now!

No money spent, a few small tasks done.
Grateful for the library, a stallholder who helped me lift the walker over a fence rather than me having to walk all round the square to get into the library, more free books.11 -
Sending get better soon vibes to all the poorlies. @Toni'sfriend if the lemon tart is posted up north to my island, I'll happily take it off your hands! 😋
Been thinking about self care/habit tweaks, etc, as I'll be 50 next year 🤯 little steps to improve myself for the future. After shopping with mum this morning, I went home & did 100 skips before dinner. Did have s couple of small treats today, but more conscious of what I ate throught the day.
Cut all the grass (it was very long!), took the garden bench out of storage & started weeding a border. Very pleased with it looking a bit neater everywhere (though still loads of weeds). Watched G0ggleb0x with DS1 whilst eating tea, then I cut & pinned 3 dresses ready to sew tomorrow, & sang along to the music on BBC2.
Grateful for my garden, that DS3 managed his 100 press ups (doing it each day to raise money for charity), good music, weather to wear my shortsUse it up, wear it out
Make do or do without!
If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours 😃
