Nationwide £200 switch offer 23/5/24-4/7/24

Weirdly, I don't have any 'spare' current accounts (that I can switch) at the moment. I have a Barclays account which I never use, but it doesn't have a debit card associated with it so I can't use it for a switch. My HSBC Advance account is similarly unused, but I'm reluctant to close that down since they're so fussy about opening accounts. Don't really want another credit search at the moment (potential impending mortgage application) so might have to sit this one out :-(

Edit: Just been through the motions on the Nationwide switch, and there is indeed a tickbox for "Has debit card" which you can turn off, then it doesn't ask for the debit card number. Looks like I'm back in the game! Better get some DDs set up. Thanks!3 -
I’m looking to switch to nationwide however I don’t want to switch my first direct account if I can avoid it. Does anyone happen to know how long it would take to swap over a couple of direct debits and would the DD need to have taken a payment to be classed as active?Thanks1

Looks like after all the problems I had filling in the form to switch from Halifax I finally managed to get it done via a phone call. The direct debits are now appearing in my Nationwide account and i had a text off them yesterday to advise I will receive a further text on Tuesday when the account switch completes to confirm if I am eligable for the £200 or not - no reason why I shouldn't be however!0

A DD that is active is one that has been pulled in the past in layman's terms, a DD say to an old CC that hasn't been used in 12 months might be an issue, only the bank would decide thatSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

So my OH is thinking of switching but the only link she has to Nationwide is a joint account with me. However it says:
Do you, or your joint account holder, have an eligible Nationwide savings account? The account must have been open as of 31 March 2024. The following savings accounts are excluded: business savings, investment accounts (for example, a stocks and shares ISA) and personal savings accounts or cash ISAs in the name of someone else that are being held for your benefit under a trust or similar arrangement.
So does this mean it will not work for her (she could open a savings account and wait for next time round) ?
Plan B is to switch to Santander.

I'm wondering if it's sufficient for them to have been set up and have a payment set to go before the switch date or whether I need to wait for the first payment to go out before requesting the switch.'3. You’ll qualify for this offer if:
........' • You transfer a minimum of 2 active Direct Debits from the current account being switched to the Nationwide account as part of the switch. Direct Debits set up or transferred after your switch has been started won’t count towards this offer. Other types of automated payments, such as standing orders and recurring card payments, are not Direct Debits and won’t count towards this.''Source:I hope this helps?1 -
I have the switch iOS app and it says about setting up the £1 adds on switchtracker site. Will that suffice doing 2 of those for the DDs?Also the savings account I have had one when it said, anything about it needing money in? As it’s empty
another question - if I’m setting up 2x £1 DDs do I need to wait until a payment is taken first ? Or just until they are showing on my account but prior to a first payment being taken?1
