also, i've often wondered, if the greatest honour you can pay a dead animal is to use every single part of it....

there aren't farm shops where i live really, certainly not meat ones, and the only one there is is in windsor, and well you can imagine the prices there...
I'm in the same situation. I live in a little village with a rural bus service so an hour's journey to get to a decent shopping area (and an hour back of course). I use my local butcher for the local meat but it is more expensive.
I’ve shopped in Windsor :eek:theamazinggem wrote: »...
BUT the thing i like about these boards is the commitment to non-judgement. it's not true of the whole forum, which is why i tend to stick to the DFW and OS side of things (i stopped posting on the student boards for instance as the "get a job" mob put me into a blind rage half the time).
right. that was a right rant. i'm yelling at people on the phone today as well, obviously not got up on the right side of bed today...
I love the OS boards because they are so friendly and I rarely venture out at all! I would hate to see OS change and I won't stand by quietly and watch it happen I’m afraid.
We mustnt forget that we are a part of MSE and a lot of people who read (not necessarily post) will be in financial crisis and I worry about how some of this 'you should buy free range.... blah' affects them. It certainly isnt what I needed to hear when I was going through my bankruptcy!
You’re obviously not having a good day, have a cuppa and put your feet up for five minutes to get your head sorted... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

We're conditioned to be selectively squeamish arent we? I love black pudding and I DO know what its made of - had all the gory details explained to me by a family friend who was the local pig killer years ago. He used to say he'd eat every part of a pig except the squeak!!... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

besides, getting MY head sorted would take waaaaaay longer than that!
i am calming down a shade tho, i think it's just one of those days, when you just want to dance round with two fingers on each hand sticking up at the world... or is that just me that has those...?

Have wasted cash on take away already due to a cooking disaster last night. We have still to do the main shopping and had very little left so I decided to use a tuna napolita packet sauce with some chicken in place of tuna(it suggests this on the packet),pasta, garlic bread.I did a veggie version with quorn pieces instead of chicken for my son.Looked lovely, then I had a taste before I served it and it tasted very strongly of fish. Not what I was expecting, and everyone else turned their noses up at it too. Then I read the ingredients list properly and near the end of the list it says,"less than 3% powdered shrimp":p .Anyway the dogs enjoyed it:D .
I quickly made a cheesy sauce for the kids and they had cheesy pasta instead.
Hubby had already stormed off in a huff, starving and grumpy because I had ruined dinner and came back an hour later with 3 dominoes pizza boxes:mad: .So £16.65 wasted as the kids had already eaten,I was so annoyed that he had spent so much money so wouldnt eat any and he wouldn,t eat it unless I did. They were left on the worktop and were gone this morning when I got up, so someone ate them.
I will make sure I have a couple of things in for cooking disaster emergencies in future which I dont need to leave to defrost."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -

Hello all, I see there are some good days and some bad days about - I've decided mine is going to be a stubborn one and am refusing to buy another thing before February and that, is that!
Total grocery spend for January - £86.09
I came in £33.91 under my £120 budget but I keep my cupboards stocked with stuff like pasta, rice, flour, dried milk etc at most times and always have soup stock etc in the freezer. First time doing an MSE grocery challenge and loved taking part, now I know there are so many others doing similar! But, I've been shopping on a budget for several years and have several more years to go until I get to be where I want to be at. I love a challenge!
Well done to all, see you in the February thread :TI reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.
