argh Im really struggling now. I have £1.02 left of the food budget til Friday and we ran out of bananas last night (kids each one each every day), and have a miniscule amount of cheddar left. unfortunately I forgot about that fact when I took the fish out of the freezer this morning for fish pie. So im improvising with some camembert (to make the sauce) I bought reduced last week and hoping for the best.
Also our toaster gave up the ghost during lunch yesterday and we managed to burn 5 slices of toast in the grill at lunchtime today so now were low on bread too.
I am so determined not to go over budget as psychologically its really important to me to succeed every month (Im a tad competitive, even if it is only with myself).
Still, penultimate day of themonth so Im hanging in there and planning my meal plan and shopping list for when I do have some money to spend.

Hi well done to those who have stayed under budget. I like many of you have gone over (slightly) £400 challenge £423 spent. I'm quite pleased with this as I have never tracked what I spend and tried to be careful what I bought. I've lowered Febs amount to £350 and am determined to keep under it. Not spending tomorrow, apart from doing Mr T online to stock up on the heavy stuff and get lots of what we use which should stop me going in to the store as much. Well done again and good luck for Feb.
Need to sort my life out! :T
  • Hubby had already stormed off in a huff, starving and grumpy because I had ruined dinner and came back an hour later with 3 dominoes pizza boxes:mad: .So £16.65 wasted as the kids had already eaten,I was so annoyed that he had spent so much money so wouldnt eat any and he wouldn,t eat it unless I did. They were left on the worktop and were gone this morning when I got up, so someone ate them.
I will make sure I have a couple of things in for cooking disaster emergencies in future which I dont need to leave to defrost.

Sorry but I couldn't help smiling a little at this, sounded so familiar :) Just remember if you don't sometimes fail then you aren't being ambitious enough

WELL DONE FLOSSYBLOG NYK MEDIA AND CURLYCABBAGE

And good luck sassamac you sound like a very determined person. Will be dead impressed if you do it!

And theamazinggem I agree that we don't want to get into pushing people to particular choices...we all have to figure out what's best for us...not a meat eater myself but only go for free range eggs if I'm using them raw, the price difference is too great for me...but I know others have different views on this.
  • hi, finished spending on food for this month, £380 , slightly over the £350 but i did do makro and have enough almonds and porridge oats to last till next year!

Still have a full fridge and cupboards

  • Does anyone use Estima potatoes? My local corner shop has them at £7.25 for 25kg but I've no idea whether they're any good (they don't sell them loose, so I can't try them first).

    Hello Everyone:hello:

I have started 2008 with meeting my January grocery challenge (even if I just made it by the skin of my teeth).

Heres hoping to shave a little more in February.

My final spend for January is £241.52 out of a £250 budget.

See you all in the Feb grocery challenge.
But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.
