  • Hi all

I would really really appreciate the veggieburger recipe as well scotrae (or rather Mr Scotrae). The chips I can manage having watched Gordon last night :)

And annie123 not sure if you're joking but I can tell you it's no joke for me :) It's the same as shopping drunk AND on an empty stomach. In fact I'm best staying out of shops altogether at that time...

And Tattycath if I remember right you haven't been feeling good earlier in the week. I think it's probably still a symptom of the cold/flu in which case stay in bed and look after yourself, just be sure and take plenty of fluids...

Still not exactly feeling top notch myself but did manage to get into the garden today in lieu of my normal gym visit and have inventoried the stock of containers and seeds ahead of my 'grow my own salad' challenge that Mrs McCawber has inspired me to do. Nothing to plant till March though. I'm going to try basil, rocket, spinach and regular lettuce. All grew reasonably well last year but somehow I lost track and it got all greenfly-ish which put me off. Going to do better this year.

And no grocery shopping at all so far. Might need a quick trip tomorrow but estimating £5 max. Which means it might not be a bust this month.

Heading off to watch a film and eat some maltesers :) Hope you all have a good night.

. Any ideas for using stewing steak other than the casseroles?
    .

i usually use stewing steak to make a curry.then put in on the hob on low,for a good few hours and it just melts in the mouth.

    Hi all,
well i`ve just updated my sig after getting the reciepts out and adding up todays shopping that DH brought home and a couple of bits he picked up in the week and i`m relieved at the amount, only £15.29 :j

The bad news is that next week will see us buy a huge sack of dogfood so that won`t leave us with much to manage on but never say never!
    Good luck everyone!

Bought a giant (56lb) bag of potatoes from a farm today for £4 and been to Morrison's today. Ours is so poor choice wise and so expensive I try to avoid it but my freezer and larder is soooo full it didn't seem worth the trip to Tesco. Spent £20.70. I think I need to spend another £15 in Tesco through the week (there is one in the town I work in but not in my hometown) and that should be it for the week.

Hi Arbroathlass, our local supermarket is really pathetic for chooce but it's small and I guess I should be lucky there is one here at all :T But I'm wondering about the sacks of potatoes. I can get these locally as well but always end up with too many and no way of storing them. Can anyone tell me how to freeze potatoes? I'd love to be able to freeze them in as many different ways as possible, even as oven style chips (I don't have a fryer). I know it's possible to buy frozen mash and the cottage pies always freeze OK but can I freeze just mash, for example? Or baked or boiled potatoes? Or roast potatoes? If this has already been asked, accept my apologies and please point me in the right direction of the answers, thank you :o
I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Just checking in with this week's spending. Have spent £16.02 during the week, topping up with bread/milk etc then had my Tesco delivery today! Was a bit mad because for the 1st time EVER I couldn't find a code that worked:mad: - so ended up paying for delivery!!! Anyhow, total spend there was £78.74.

I therefore have £4.78 left for the remainder of this challenge - which, for me, ends on Wednesday. I should be there or thereabouts:j

I'm not even going to try to catch up!!! Instead I will say that I hope you are all well and doing well on this months challenge.

My challenge ends on Sunday 27th as that's when our month ends for 'January'. Yes I am very under budget and trying to drain every squidge out of the stocks in the freezer and cupboards because of a bill we have due in. I am going to do a meal (ish) plan tomorrow based on what is left (it's getting lower and lower in supplies which is making me twitch alreaduy!!) then as small a shopping list as possible to go with it.
One day I might be more organised...........
    GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb
  • went to Mr ts today and spent £32.88 so have blown my challenge this month:mad: but i will go back to the drawing board for the beginning of february and sort myself out i hope:D

Good luck to everyone i hope you are all doing well:T :T :T
  • I cut my budget to £200 this month instead of the usual £250. I still have some left so hopefully I will manage it. I think the difference is that I have been taking packed lunches most of the month and I always added on any spends on lunch to my grocery spend. I have found my achilles heel obviously and will be continuing to take lunches every day as it seems to be saving me a fortune.
