Firstly, thanks to the person who thanked my DH for his meatball recipe. He was glowing with pride when I read your post out to him and suggested that ishould tell you all about his homemade veggie burger and chips that he made to use everything up last night. Another time perhaps!

    Scotrae,
your DH`s vegeburger recipe would be most welcome when you have time please.:D

I`ll add it to my folder and try it when we have all the ingredients, the best recipes are usually ones that i find on here.

*starts drooling with memories of the meatballs* :D
    Thanks

£28.99 in Tesco this afternoon - but I made sure I had something to eat before I went so I stuck to the list! That should cover most things for the next two weeks meals until the end of the month with just a top up shop next weekend (though we're away Friday and Saturday night) Hopefully if I shop on my own again next week we'll come in under budget! £143.40 so far out of £200. Want to get it below £175 next month! :j

... Am I the only one girls???

No, you're not the only one :D I also learned to avoid the shops if I'd had a bad day, ie the sort of day that left me feeling frustrated and generally !!!!ed off, else my basket would be overflowing with comfort crap! ;)
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

  • Bought a giant (56lb) bag of potatoes from a farm today for £4 and been to Morrison's today. Ours is so poor choice wise and so expensive I try to avoid it but my freezer and larder is soooo full it didn't seem worth the trip to Tesco. Spent £20.70. I think I need to spend another £15 in Tesco through the week (there is one in the town I work in but not in my hometown) and that should be it for the week.
  • £92.41 this week, Did a Mr Ts online shop but when I got it it was £6 over what I expected, I know it was only £6 but usually when I shop online it usually comes in under. I still spend far too much, I think it's because I go to home bargains and aldi most weeks as well and although I buy things I think I need I maybe don't. Will try harder next month. I'm still on track to be under my expected goal but I think I spend far too much for a family of 4 and cat.

You could prep and freeze all the veg for using later, or how about oven roasting some of the veg with olive oil dribbled over and some herbs added, or make a soup up - just peel, chunk and put veg into a large saucepan or slow cooker cover with 1.5 pts stock and simmer until tender, process until smooth and pop back into pan, add a knob of butter and a splash of milk and season to taste, eat a portion and freeze the rest.

Ooooh the oven roasting option sounds nice, might give that a go. Soup also sounds like a nice healthy option too. No slow cooker yet, tho am tempted. specially as i dont have to be great in the kitchen to use one, like the idea of throwing bits together and waiting for it to cook.

    Thanx catznine.

picked up some odds and ends of fresh stuff today, spent £7.50 on fruit and veg and then £7.25 on groceries from Sbury. Fruit should last all week, groceries inc sliced bread as OH refuses to eat homemade and special milk for DS (lactose intolerance)
Decided not to try and take off amounts for nappies and other stockpiled things, thankfully mine is a 'virtual' budget in that I do have the money to cover bargain buys and stocking up I'm just trying to save!

I think I will go over budget this month as I'm still training myself in buying less. I'm good at hunting down bargains but very bad at resisting the temptation to stockup.

However hopefully next month I will aim for a 'spend only on fresh stuff' month and see if I can come in under budget.

Hi everyone. I've had a thumping migraine all day and most of last night!!!!! I went back to bed for a couple of hours at 4pm but my head is still throbbing!!! any suggestions (other than migralieve and paracetamol) much appreciated. Called at local shop today and bought a couple of bits and some paracetamol and spent £2.46-must update sig. I'm still confident I'll be underbudget this month!!!!! (let's hope my confidence isn't my downfall!!!). Well done to everyone else so far. Continued good luck for this last part of the month. Not long now.

  • I've updated my sig. Went to Asda this morning with a list and we only bought what was on the list £10.18. DS1 walked round with calculator adding it up for me. We've got a meat and veg order coming at the end of this week, so including that we've only got £2.07 left!!!!! But we will only need milk and maybe some cereal we hope, to see us to the end of the month. Depending how it goes if we don;t use the meat that is coming until Feb, I may add it to Febs budget, but we'll see how it goes.
I was cross yesterday as I forgot to take my soup out the fridge to take to work so had to spend 90p on a rubbish sausage roll. That will teach me not to forget again!!
Made some flapjacks, gingercake and lemoncake tonight for lunchboxes and snacks. Everyone is enjoying the homemade food.
Keep up the good work everyone:T

    Hi Tattycath

can't suggest any remedy for you poor head I'm afraid, but just wanted to express a bit of sympathy for you. I know how you must be feeling, there's nothing worse than a headache you can't seem to shift.

Poor you. Hope you feel better soon

    cheers
