NatWest and Royal Bank of Scotland have an Emergency Cash function to allow you to generate a code via the app and withdraw using a cash machine. Telephone customers could also access a code via telephone banking, however, I'm not sure if this is still available.

I have seen a weirdly setup contactless ATM at my local Virgin Money, however, I'm not sure if it works properly and I've never tried to use it.

Seems this is becoming common in USA:

And Santander seem to be leading the charge here.

All our cash machines have contactless so you can just tap your card and enter your PIN.

The key advantage I see is support for virtual cards (Google Pay, Apple Pay, and the like).  Likely you will still have to touch the screen or buttons, and of course handle the cash.

Apart from my hairdresser I rarely use cash these days.  So not much interest to me personally!

I rarely use cash so its not of much interest to me either. I normally only use it when my daughter gets givem cash for Christmas etc, she always wants to spend it at Amazon so she gives me the cash and i transfer the money, and I use the cash fot petrol or something.

If NatWest enable these contactless card readers and support Google/Apple Pay with it, then it's more likely 'Get Cash' will be binned IMHO, as that then becomes the solution to the 'getting cash without debit card' problem.
This would disable the (to some) useful ability to "gift" the code to someone remote, enabling them to pull cash.

The "stranded offspring at 3am with lost phone/wallet" scenario comes to mind.

True, although I'm not entirely sure this is a use case the bank intends.

Probably not, but there's no explicit prohibition, unlike, say, lending your card&PIN to someone. It's pretty low risk, being capped at £130/day (strange amount?).

    It is.

GetCash will offer customers an easy fix for lost or forgotten cards, a way to get cash quickly to family members or friends in need, or a choice of leaving their wallets at home in favour of their mobile phones.

It will be coming soon for BlackBerry.

    Phew, that's a relief!

I don't know if you know - but VISA/Mastercard are removing the magnetic strip from cards shortly.
This is normally used to cause to card reader shutter to open to take cards when the card is the right way up.
The removal of the strip means that atm software are being updated - which means that a card will be taken any way up BUT it will only work ONE way.
Some of the less observant of you may have already found that your cards  may be getting  spat back out with an 'Invalid Card'  message.
