PIP assessment - advice

I always advise claimants be pro-active and get on the front foot with their claims. However... calling PIP at this time is pointless... or as you've found potentially damaging to your health or causing of confusion. A decision will be made in the comings days or more likely weeks... by a decision maker or case officer whatever they decide to call them. You may get a text when decision made.. but ultimately it's a wait for a letter giving the actual decision. I do not anticipate any surprises in your case. This is a time where literally there is no point you doing anything - you've got a report that implies strongly you won't need to waste effort preparing to challenge a decision.Jack_bauer24 said:Hi, just a quick update: I phoned PIP up, I spoken to someone to check if any update, and he said that it's signed off, but it's with a case worker to look at and make a final decision. Now, this has got me worried, are case worker the same thing as a decision maker?

Hi, Ok thank you so much for your advice. Also, this person on another forum (Digital Spy) has really offended me big time, she saying that I am a benefit cheat and I am playing the system with this PIP. I am fuming and angry.Muttleythefrog said:

Ignore them and I'd suggest not posting there if that's the replies you get.Jack_bauer24 said:

So many people don't understand hidden disabilities and even get jealous of the benefits someone with disabilities can claim.

To agree with what Poppy said, I saw hundreds of reports as a welfare rights adviser. I never saw points taken away from the assessor's report in any of them. I saw plenty of terrible assessor's reports, but you have a really good report.poppy12345 said:
Ringing them like this will only make you even more anxious than you already are. You've had the assessment report which was in your favour. As others have continued to advise, it's very unusual for them to go against the report and if they do it's mostly to award more points, rather than remove them so it's very very rare for them to remove points.Jack_bauer24 said:Hi, just a quick update: I phoned PIP up, I spoken to someone to check if any update, and he said that it's signed off, but it's with a case worker to look at and make a final decision. I've had many assessments in the past 11 years and have never known them go against any reports. I totally understand the stress it all causes but please try to focus on something else. Once a decision is made you will be contacted. If you gave a mobile number on the form then very often they send a text once awarded.
I know the constant anxiety is so hard to control, I've seen how my husband struggles in the same way, so I really do empathise. Every time you feel it try and take some deep breaths, read the reassuring advice here and tell yourself the decision will be with you in the next few weeks. Please don't make yourself unwell getting more anxious.3 -
Then why are you posting on there? You've had some great advice on here so there shouldn't be any need to turn to other forums.Jack_bauer24 said:

Yes, I regret posting on there now. My big mistake. I didn't realise people were like that on that forum.poppy12345 said:

Yes, they were really mean. It is unacceptable to make such judgements on someone they don't know and with no objective evidence (for instance if the same person was posting contradictory things on different posts)Jack_bauer24 said:

All we can do is take people at their word unless proven otherwise. It is up to medical professionals to decide on a person's health issues and the DWP on a person's benefit entitlement. Sadly there are people with certain viewpoints which means they lack empathy for other people's situations. Weirdly some of them are on benefits themselves, but their opinion seems to be 'I'm genuine, but others are scrounging', which is pretty awful.
I've helped lots of people fill in assessment forms for DLA, AA, PIP, ESA and it was never my place to judge, just advise. Sometimes that advice was 'you won't be entitled' but it was always based on what a client told me and their medical evidence, not any personal judgements.2 -
Thank you Danien and yes, I agree with everything you said. I won't be posting any more updates on that forum anymore, I am done with that forum. This forum is well better and really nice people.Danien said:

There's always ignorant and jealous people around.... certainly in the past on here I got plenty allegations and abuse when it had general discussion/debate options... ironically often the same people who claimed I was not unwell complained about the symptoms of my illness. I think as a society there is a lot of scepticism and actually the medical profession itself along with disability assessors can be among the worst. Politicians don't help by suggesting they're targeting all these 'benefit cheats'. Ultimately claiming PIP is about evidence and you're well set for a good award.Jack_bauer24 said:
