Thanks. Currently with Virgin, who are dropping savings rates - hence why I’ve started looking into this
You can open up to 20 accounts with Chase. So you have a ready supply of burner accounts to use for switching and then go for as many switching offers as you like. Just make sure you always have at least one account open with them at all times. They also offer a 5.1% instant access savings account. This includes a 1% boost until next January. Far better than the lousy 2.5% rate that the M+ saver offers.
I can see! So I’m thinking of moving Virgin to Santander and maxing out the savings account for 12 months for max interest (and Quidco!), and having the current acc be my new main. Also open a chase account and making the most of the savings until Jan…seem like a good plan?
It sounds a good plan to start with. One other thing to consider though is that depending on your income/total savings you may want to consider opening a cash ISA whilst you're at it (there are plenty listed on moneyfacts at a similar rate to Chase's 5.1% offering and also in the cash ISA thread).

Can anyone confirm if Santander carry out a hard search when switching to them? Have never been a customer of theirs before. Thanks.

Santander do a hard search when applying for a current account with them (the switch itself doesn't generate an additional hard search though). For future reference @pecunianonolet maintains a useful thread with a list of banks that do hard/soft searches:

    That's really useful, thanks.

I currently have an Edge Student Current Account with Santander. Is it possible for me to take advantage of this offer?
  • Sorry if this has been asked before (as I did on another thread), but I need to set up 2 direct debits to qualify for perks. Any ideas of where I could do this, eg a savings account somewhere which would debit from my Santander Edge current account. I'm already making use of council tax, energy, water and broadband direct debits to qualify for various banking perks (eg Barclays Blue Rewards Rainy Day) so I'm looking for other DD possibilities. Any advice would be much appreciated. I've already discovered one I can recommend - Homeserve (offering a very inexpensive deal with a DD of about £1 per month) -  but I'm short of another.
  • Oops - I hadn't yet seen a highly relevant thread by Bridlington1 when I posted the question above. I'd leave a link to it here, but the one I thought I had for you isn't working - sorry!

It's possible for you to take advantage of this offer. Open an Edge, Edge up or private account and switch into it, you can hold this alongside your existing student account.

Note you won't qualify for the £175 if you just switch into your existing student account.

    Switch completed
    £1500 flushed through
Need to wait a couple of weeks to set up my 2 DDs
And then hopefully avoid the monthly fee!
