I didn't take many pictures this trip, but I thought of this thread when I saw these stairs :)  (St Fagan's museum castle gardens)

I've got my bird table on the lawn after seeing a couple of rats sneak up the fence uuugh!
Since doing that I've had loads more birds feeding, especially the small ones that are clearing the garden of box caterpillars and greenfly on the roses.

I'm (eventually) going to sink a slab into the turf so I can mow over it but keep the table legs dryish.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

*Shudder* I've had rats and I never want them again  :s  My biggest problem now is squirrels - even having bought a baffle and wiped it all over with veg oil so they can't get purchase on it, they navigated that very neatly by launching themselves off the fence. Swines. So my bird feeder will have to move somewhere more into the middle but I don't know where yet.

Himself has started digging out a trench for the foundations to go in, and I'll make a start with gently clipping back the overgrowth so Bob the Builder has room to work. I've seen no sign of baby birds so I hope it'll be alright..

As a fellow squirrel sufferer, I send sympathies
If only the devils weren't so destructive and generally a pest I'd enjoy their antics, one can only admire their inventiveness

I may have mentioned before, but good viewing on YouTube on a wet afternoon, some professor attempting to stop squirrels by designing “impossible” bird feeder

Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens

Yeah I've seen a lot of those videos, some of them are pure brilliant! I totally agree - it's a shame squirrels are so destructive because they're so clever and inventive and entertaining to watch.

I like the idea of gaps in the brick wall, would imagine it makes it easier for birds to forage and shelter about the garden plus give them early warning of any passing cats.

I like the idea of gaps too. I've instructed himself to have a talk to Bob and see if he can come up with a suggestion to incorporate it :)

Ooh I really like that. It would solve the problem of where to put a pond too
