Ours came down today, although the outside lights will remain up until the weekend (I think Christmas lights brighten up the dark drive home from work and like to leave them out for as long as possible). Now the decorations are down, the house has had a good clean and I'm ready to start the new year. Bring it on, 2008!Go your own way..

We aren't superstitious at all but historically, usually falls around 12th night - we tend to do it the first full weekend after New Year, unless it's too long and NYD is a Saturday! Then we do it on our last days off work. I can't cope with the hassle at the same time as going back to work.
We put ours up mid December as we tend to be a rellies for Christmas so wouldn't get any time to enjoy it otherwise.
I think do it when it suits. Personally I like the lights etc and the atmosphere it gives in the evenings but I understand how hard it is to clean around everything (so I just don't:rotfl: ).
My OH doesn't particuarly like decorating the tree so he is in charge of singin-animal-batteries and rope-light-attachment and, bless him, volunteers to dismantle the tree, pack everything away and co-ordinate the assault on the loft. Suppose it balances out the fact that I am present-wrapper extroidinaire and card maker/writer.

Well that's the guests away from today so am enjoying a last glass of wine and sit down for the day (haven't done much of that myself today due to being host). Look forward to starting (and possibly finishing) the clearing away of Decs tomorrow. usually leave them longer but can't stand the rush and pressure at end of week to do it before back to work Monday. For a change, will do it sooner then relax later in week.
Hope everyone had a good NYD.If only I could stop finding good bargains on this site, I would save a fortune! :rotfl:0 -
I like that site and I never knew twelth night was actually the 5th. So everyone who moans at me because I should only take my dec down on the 6th like they do, otherwise it's 'bad luck' are actually wrong themselves.
I also get a yearly argument about when the tree should go up (12 days before according to my sil and sil) and as I point out every year I've only ever heard it from them.:p
Twelfth Night is the evening of 5th January and all day of 6th January, but as thriftlady has said the superstition is that it is unlucky to take down the decorations after that date but it doesn't matter if it is before. We will be taking down our decorations on the 6th (at the crack of dawn if I have anything to do with it!) as my mother is very superstitious and I don't want any "I told you so"s!0 -

All down and just about to pack away in loft - just to re-jig the living room back to normal (well, ensuring still room to play the wii of course
)
Routine soon to be restored thank goodness!If only I could stop finding good bargains on this site, I would save a fortune! :rotfl:0 -
Think I'll take the Christmas cards down tomorrow and cut off the bits I can use on the ones I'll make then take the rest to Tescos.
I'll leave the greenery and the tree till weekend though. Not long now is it.
We don't put them up till week before Christmas so they've not really been up long enough to get fed up with them.Mary
I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !

Today:j
Much as I love the decorations and tree I also love how clean and uncluttered the house looks once they are all down. OH also removed all the outside lights today as well in preparation for tomorrow's snowfall0
