@kiss_me_now9 is the permit so that you can park at work? If so, that is a big load of your mind if you need to get to the nursery in a hurry. Re Grapes of Wrath, I read that 3 or 4 years ago and it's a great book, if rather harrowing, especially at the end. It made me feel very angry that people could be treated in that way, but that sort of thing still goes on of course.@roundtuit glad you are feeling a bit better.@Valli there seems to be no rhyme or reason why they issue the invitations in the order that they do but on the NHS website when I went to book it said you had to have it by the end of June so presumably all the invitations will be sent out fairly soon. This morning after I'd showered and dressed I walked to the end of the road, mainly for the walk, although I did buy two things. I came back and started to clean the kitchen, then made lunch and washed up and have just cleaned the kitchen floor and it's now drying. I emptied the kitchen bin and it's sitting in the bath with bleachy water in it, to sanitise it. Soon I will take down the rubbish, rinse out and dry the bin and put a new liner in. I will then try to read a bit of my book (a 1920s American detective novel). For anyone looking for a nice, gentle but interesting book I can recommend 'A Tree Grows in Brooklyn', a semi-autobiographical novel by the American writer Betty Smith, published in 1943. I read it a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Tree_Grows_in_Brooklyn_(novel)

@Cloth_of_Gold yes, it means I can park in the big staff car park on site, which has it's own little entrance/exit, is my side of town and only costs £2 for the day
a massive weight off my mind. A huge amount of my anxiety at work is around getting there and getting parked safely (I've had a few too many parking tickets and been shouted at in the street a few times for parking in a residential area when there was nowhere else to go and I was late). Now that's sorted I know I can get in, get parked and do my job.
I will check out A Tree Grows in Brooklyn - looks very interesting!£2023 in 2023 challenge - £17.79 January5 -
Such a small thing but it will make a huge difference to you; well done. Hope you like the book if you get it.Bin rinsed out and dried and a new bag put in. Not my favourite job but strangely satisfying when it's done. I expect it's how Michelangelo felt when he'd completed the Sistine Chapel.
After that I vacc'd around and then took the full bin bag down and listened to a couple of Madonna tracks on the way down and back (Vogue and Deeper and Deeper). I love both of those and they are so full of energy and with such great rhythm that I wanted to start dancing when I got back into the flat. A would have thought I'd gone off my rocker.
Instead I'd better get back to reality and make him a cup of tea and a cup of coffee for myself......

So today we have done the beginning of WWII, read some of a book and found out some things about the author, become acquainted with other child diarists from WWII and found out some more bout 1 of them. printed off some patterns to make felt tree decorations with a plan to sell them at christmas. We are having a go at resin keyrings/earrings next week. We are not being idle...
I've knitted in between the tutoring.
Squeak goes to her German class on a Thursday so we are taking her in and Friday she does German and art so she can go in then too.. I need some time off to sort out what she is doing next week!

@Cloth_of_Gold yes, absolutely. I was briefly considering PIP or DLA assessor roles as they are all work from home and I wouldn't have to worry at all about the commute. It is one of my biggest stressors as once I'm there I can "go with the flow" and get into the zone, whatever that is (sometimes a bit of a war zone...)
@pigpen German was my favourite subject at school. Such a fantastic language. Depending on her level (and her age - I'm sorry, I'm not sure how old she is) there are some wonderful 90s and early 2000s German TV shows you can find on Youtube. I particularly loved Türkisch für Anfänger and Berlin Berlin. The former is a bit more middle teenager as it's all about a girl who's mum marries a Turkish widow, and their blended family (lots of teenage romance drama). Berlin Berlin is a bit harder to find and a lot older but it's about a 20 something who moves to Berlin to start a new life.£2023 in 2023 challenge - £17.79 January6 -
KissMeNow glad you have got something sorted. I have to park on a residential street for work, it's very safe but difficult to find a space after 8.30am and even then you sometimes turn up and there is nothing available. It makes the start of the day quite stressful!
I like the sound of that book CofG, have noted it down. Oh and I love the idea of you dancing to a bit of Madonna with your bin bag 😊
Long busy day at the paid stuff. DS called and stayed for tea. He looks tired.
I have managed to do a load of laundry. That will do for today, I won't be late to bed.8 -
I echo what the others have said, KissMeNow. That must be a relief.
Jazee, I have read both of those books, so I can see why you were absorbed. I have just finished Days at the Morisaki Bookshop (ASB, you might like that, very gentle about the healing of books and bookshops) and The Dinner by Herman Koch. Both translations. I am now adding CoG’s recommendation to my reading list.
Another day done at work. Nuff said. But driving home in sunshine was lovely, I even went and checked the gh when I got home. The washing dried on the line, I have just done HHI. Now it is cuppa and a hm muffin, then that’s this evening pretty much done.7 -
Good evening 😊
Paid stuff again today - not too bad. Just 1 screaming banshee first thing, but I calmed her quite quickly and then we had a good day. No wee accidents is also a bonus!
1 x WM line dried & FUPA. DW put on after dinner. I will empty that in the morning, and finish off what was left (if DH doesn't do it first 🤞) I did some admin - updated some spreadsheets, juggled some money about, paid for my car tax & paid the garage for the brake pads - nothing else was needed, so that was £500+ spend avoided! I did some knitting while watching TV tonight.
Bed time now. Night night all4 -
Morning all
Another bright and beautiful day here, makes such a difference! Half day at the paid stuff then I WILL:
- set up firestick in DS room
- hoover and clean out the car
- two small wash loads
- hoover upstairs
- keep both fires going (kitchen one is already roaring again, it’s -5 here!)
Thats enough to get on with, have fab days all xx

Morning all xx
I'm up, made my bed, dressed, packed my lunch, eaten breakfast and supped a brew. Yep. I'm going back to the paid stuff.
Flyfriends. Today P is having his bone marrow biopsy. His appointment is at 10.30 am. Please join me in sending prayers, posivibes, and everything good that they don't find anything to indicate that there's something sinister going on. 🙏
I suspect that things have kicked off at Toxic Towers in my absence. I'm hoping I'll be allowed to put my head down and crack on with my work. Not too much to ask, is it?
Wishing you all a peaceful day.
