  • Aww Mupeteer, you've really been through the mill! I'm also teacher training, and suffer from inability to sleep, so I know exactly how you feel.

All I can say is that I think you're doing wonderfully, and to keep your chin up! XxX

Thanks M&Sgal. Are you on the four year course or post grad? How is it going?

  • LOL, I'm on the secret, only for idiots 5 year route!

Which is basically 4 years of an Education Studies with German degree (which I am on the year abroad of atm, hence why I'm always banging on about Berlin and quoting things in euros and sterling), followed by a PGCE primary when I finish. Even though I don't have to do time in school at the moment, in my first year I tutored a friend's kid for her Geerman GCSE, last year I did the Student Associate Scheme where I spent 4 weeks in a lovely Edmonton, north London secondary school that was in special measures, and this year in between my 2 semesters in Germany I'm hopefully spending 3 weeks in primary (was going to teach MFL at secondary, but no one is bothered with that, so going to be a primary language specialist, if I ever qualify lol!)

It's been a bit of a slog, and annoys me that at 23, all my friends have qualified and I'm still in HE, but I love the time I spend at school, so it'll be worth it! Hoping for a first, since I'm the first person in my family to go to uni, and the look on my parents' face will be priceless!

What level are you training for? You sound like you're doing a sterling job keeping it all together!

    XxX

(And true inability to sleep, we're an hour ahead in Germany, it's 2.23am and I'm as bright-eyed as a button, urgh!)

I'm on the 4 year course for primary teaching (though 5 years if you count the access course I did first:eek: ). It really is a slog sometimes but the placements andtime spent with the kids make it worthwhile.

I could never have considered high school teaching - kids that age scare me:D

I'm only in my second year just now and, as a mature student with a mortgage and all that rubbish, it can be really tough sometimes. I'm sure it will be worth it when I graduate. I know my family will be spproud of me as I too am the first to go to uni. Only sad thing is that my mum can't be there. Still, I know she would be proud of me and I'm sure she'll be there in spirit.

Listen to me, talking as if I'm about to graduate any time soon. If only!

I'm off to try the sleeping thing again. Let's hope it woks this time as I'm already down to less than 5 hours for tonight.

  • Well Mupeteer, what with my PGCE, we'll end up graduating in the same summer ... something to keep me on track! I know it feels a million miles away from graduating, but my first 2 years really did fly by, so before we know it, we'll be in our NQT year causing havoc ... or I will anyway!

And high school, I really did love it, I find that if you go in to treat the kids with respect, you 90% of the time get it back. Of course there are always little horrors, but you just deal with it. Sadly the jobs just aren't there anymore, so primary it is, though I'm sure I'll like that too ... I did work experience at my local primary when I was 16 and enjoyed it, so hopefully the same thing will happen again in a few weeks.

And yes, since it's getting on for 3am (and my laptop is dying for a charge), I'll have a go at sleeping too.

    Nighty night! xXx

After a very short night of sleep I made it to school in plenty of time to get ready for having the class all day. I was really surprised that I wasn't too stressed about it - not like the first time I had to do it. Anyway, I had a good day. A couple of the kids were playing up but nothing I couldn't handle.

I should now be writing up evaluations of my lessons, the day as a whole and my lesson plans for tomorrow but I'm knackered. It'll have to wait until tomorrow.

I've been left on my own (which I am liking - a bit of quiet time) but I'm a bit annoyed at BF. I got in ages after him, just in time for him to tell me he's heading up to see his sister and she wants him to stop for a chippie on the way. Obviously she has said she wants something so he's away doing it as usual. I really reckon she's going to cause more strife between BF and me.

Not sure what I'm going to eat - probably cereal as I can't be bothered making anything else and we don't even have bread or cheese in the house. I really fancy a takeaway but I've got less than a pound left from my moozies challenge money this week so I had better not.

    Oh, but I want to.

    No you don't!

Minor argument with myself going on here.

What a busy week! School has been great. I've now had 2 days of full responsibility and next week it'll be 3 consecutive days so I'm trying to get as much organised this weekend as possible. My tutor comes to assess me on Thursday morning:eek: so I'lll have to have all my plans and evaluations up to date by then.

Next weekend I'll probably just collapse in a heap!

Two good side effects of being on placement are that I've been eating tons of fruit (feels like I can't eat junk if I'm telling the kids to be healthy!) and I've hardly spent any money.

    Good week all round then!:j

The healthy eating is a good side effect of our profession but I never manage to carry it over beyond hometime and always head straight for the chocolate as soon as I am home. :o

The healthy eating doesnt even make it as far as the staff room in our school - the table is always laden with biscuits, cakes etc :rotfl:
Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches
