It's a fine line, just like dieting!
If you deny yourself everything. you'll rebel against it, realising you've just eaten the whole cake rather than just a slice is an awful feeling and leaves you feeling worse than before.
Using little tips on here like doing paid surveys, saving £2 coins, sending off for freebies from the 'freebies, no spend req' forum are all little things that we can do to treat ourselves, doing that helps to keep me in check the rest of the time.
...Linda xxIt's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.0 -
I hardly dare say this but when water shortages loomed I started saving the water that I run off when I am waiting for the hot water to come through in the hot tap - usually 2 litres. I have 2 old milk containers and a large jug. I then use these to fill up the cistern when I flush the loo. This has gone on over a year now and my water bill has been reduced by at least £1 amonth and i am helping environment!0

Over the past couple of months, I've added a 'Price Index' to my money spreadsheets. Across the top, I've written the names of the 5 or 6 shops I usually go to, and down the side, I've got a list of all items I've bought and how much they cost in each of the shops. I highlight the cheapest price for each item in each shop and plan my shopping accordingly. Whenever I'm updating my spreadsheets (every evening, usually), I'll also update the price lists from the day's receipts - only takes a minute or two now.
This, for me, was an eye-opener. I always thought things like milk and butter were sold at standard prices everywhere, and was gobsmacked by the differences I found! Catfood is another one that varies hugely...
Anyway, from someone who didn't have a clue what anything cost six months ago, I'm now (gradually) becoming a seasoned bargain hunter! Very satisfying too, to know I've got the best value for my money.I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

1) If you get your bt phone bill on line instead of a bill posted to your house you can save a pound or 2 and that goes for a few companies AND your saving the environment..... I can't remember how much exactly you save but hey ...in for a penny, in for a pound!! 2) I also look at the front cover of hair magazines and wait for the issue that says 'free haircut for every reader' then i send off for the free voucher and hey presto ....book your new cut, wash and blow for free!! 3) I also share magazines with mum and my nan 4) I sterilise my babys bottles in sterilising fluid each day then when you need to make a fresh batch i pour the old batch into the sink and put my dish cloths in to sterilise them too! 5) I've also done the replacing your usual brand with supermarket own brand and found myself saving and finding better products or at least equal quality!! on things like crisps, beans, bread, soap powder etc etc 6) I always reuse those jiffy envelopes and jiffy bags for my ebay parcels also saving the environment at the same time................. oh i really am a tight wad arent i!!?? I think i even am starting to agree with my husband. He has been saying that i am tight for ages now and i have always denied it but i can no longer hide!!0

This thread has made me smile. I think I am turning into my Dad or Jim Royle. I am obsessed with turning off lights and shouting at BF and DD 'What do you think this is, Blackpool Illuminations?' and 'Do you think I'm made of money???'0

lol, and don't forget the classic "were you born in a barn?!"
(translation:please keep the door closed to this room, to keep the heat in)
remember that your local library will order any book or cd for you to borrow (obviously you wouldn't copy the cd's as that would be against copyright regs etc:D )
i used to spend loads on pointless magazines in my younger years but haven't bought one for a couple of years now, a lot of them are available to read online anyway.
i also do all the things mentioned on this thread already, it doesn't seem like doing anything that's a special effort, it's just what i think is normal.i don't know why anyone wouldn't do these things automatically, thanks mse !
