lol, luckily each time I've been able to clip everything back together, the beauty of the Astra wing mirrors... the only permenant damage done was a smashed drivers mirror glass, but as the glass just cracked and didn't fall out I could buy a stick on replacement glass and stick it over the cracked one so only cost me around a fiver. Not the point though I know.... :(

Oh, and the smashed door glass I've managed to replace cheaper than my insurance excess as OH used to work for AutoGlass so knows what to do and we know where to get the glass very cheap too

oohhh - just discovered this thread, right up my street....
i don't think these things are wierd at all...although i haven't tried the lighting the candle in the bathroom one! i too open the window, but will try the candle, does it have to be a fragrance one.

I picked up this tip in a womens survival guide once, we keep matches in the bathroom cabinet hust for it!!-I hate smells & ell...didnt want him to smell me!!
Strike a match in the bathroom, the actual ignition (burning of it) gets rid of all pings! just leaves a match smell! do it around the toilet area! works a treat! thats how i survive! Air freshners just mask it & sometimes be worse than the actual smell!!
2010 is my DO IT year! grow own bits, savvy shopping, organised!!Get a hobby!!! be fit!! be happy!!
Saving all change & paying off debts!!
constantly looking to save money!!! all help needed!!
  • To save money I:

    - Charge my personal mobile at work.
    - Put the washing machine on half an hour before I go to bed (cheaper electricity)
    - Put clothes on the clothes horse to dry (can't stand using the tumble dryer)
    - Stock up on bogof's that are useful to me.
    - Not been to a hairdressers for 1 year.
    - Buy my own hair dye from boots and go to a local college to get it cut.
    - Communicate via email to my friends/relatives that live miles away.

My other half calls me an eco freak/miser as I'm constantly thinking of way sto save money and turning off lights when no-one's in the room.

My husband laughs at me and says I am obsessed with this site,
    buts he's glad really,:D
I pick up coins in the street.:o
I go to the supermarket 3 times at week at 8.30pm,they reduce things at 8.45pm so I buy enough bread for the week and meat and veg/ready meals reduced to pennies.(food bill was £500+++ now £200 feeding 6 adults,2 dogs,cat,3 ferrets.);) I collect money off vouchers to use at Tesco.
All my friends give me their magazines to read,so I collect money off vouchers from them. And I get to keep all the free samples they have in them, they sell well on ebay.:j
When I have finished putting petrol in the car I always lift the hose up so any petrol goes in my car and not the next persons car.(HTMS):D
On the rare occasions we go away I go armed with vouchers.

Bit disappointed though, I normally shop at Sainsburys, and I find that they do more 'basic/value) lines that I use more often.

Sheesh...I bet he doesn't call himself a freak when he benefits from the money you've saved...

    I...
    1. Make my own ice-cream. Cheap stuff is cheap and cheap tasting. Expensive stuff is outrageously priced.
    2. I make my own "ready meals". Make more portions than needed, then nuke them at work. It also means I know what's in them.
    3. I've started making my own bread. It tastes much nicer and is far, far more filling.
    4. I go through quidco for loads of stuff. Insurances are especially lucrative.
    5. I almost alway use price-comparison websites. Makes impulse buys into a 6 month slog, but what the heck...

    I'm sure there's more...

  • I pick up money
get free car wash (to test it at work) about the only perk working in a garage
buy presents cards wrap in Jan sales
try to use money off vouchers (but only if I want the item)
cut and dye my own hair and DD's unless I get a free haircut Herbal essences once a year
Dont use the landline to call mobiles text or e mail
cycle whenever I have time, to work or to town
Won't pay for parking. Even the kids have stopped complaining about having to walk about half a mile to the station. I refuse to pay £4.50 a day.
We have showers instead of baths. Our bathroom is sometimes so cold you can see your breath. This ensures no one has showers longer than about 30 seconds as they are in a hurry to get their clothes back on.
When ever anyone in the house is thinking about buying something. I make them wait until I have checked whether I can get it cheaper/through quidco
we all take packed luches made with home made bread. And |I take a flask of coffee to work.
I even take a flask when I am going on train journeys, and for waiting in airpoirts, which I am only using if I am on a 1p ryanair flight.
Also been known to tell the OH to bring some loo roll back from the pub when we run out.
    Make all leftovers into something.

I haven't posted for a while but saw this thread and it grabbed me! lol

well for christmas this year I recycled christmas cards as gift tags (I'm not alone in this I know!)

I checked with family and friends if they wanted to buy items online and checked if I could buy it for them through Quidco/Topcashback. I managed to buy a fair few items for people, it didn't cost them any more, they gave me the the money and I get the cashback.....bargain!!

We got ourselves invited to other relatives for christmas dinner (saved on buying xmas food)

we dug up our own christmas tree for £5 (don't own an artificial one unfortunately)

I bought christmas crackers cheap on christmas eve from BHS for £2.50 for 12 (the only thing we were asked to constribute on christmas day!)

my 11 year old daughter wanted a Nintendo DS Lite for christmas (we couldn't afford it), so we pooled what we could afford with other relatives and bought one between us and a coupld of games. Daughter was over the moon (phew!)

we told close family and friends of our predicament and agreed not to buy each other presents, for my parents and sister and brother-in-law we did secret santa with a limit of £7.50 and we were all impressed with our presents!!

My hubby and I don't buy each other christmas presents

used £25 in M&S vouchers that I got for my 40th birthday for xmas pressies

    WHAT A STINGY CHRISTMAS!!!

when its not christmas we always have our water heater on when its cheap rate (I usually get up at 5am to put it on for an hour!!)

my hubby and I always share our bathwater (euww)

we never pay to wash our car

my sis gives me her magazines after she has read them (I haven't bought one for over a year!)

my bessie mate (who know I am skint) works in a cosmetics factory and keeps me in lotions and potions (haven't paid for any in over a year!)

I poach a bottle of red wine from my dad now and again (won't buy it myself and he buys it by the caseload!)

my daughter and I bake our own cakes (yum.....they make the house smell lovely when they are cooking too!!)

the list is endless............and I am still skint with over 47 years on a DMP til we are debt free!!!
