    I have washed my own car for about 4 or 5 years now;

is car washing a scottish thing? it's not that I like my car to look nice just that it gets so clatty you can't see out after a couple of weeks! you put the wash/wipers on and the mud runs off the roof. I don't bother in the summer though (two weeks in june usually).

No, it's just you probably live somewhere where it doesn't rain a lot...

It's probably the state of the roads that's the problem. I live on the side of a hill, so it's the low-landers who get the mud and stuff. My car can remain spotless for weeks at a time... ;)

Though it's a bit hacky at the moment because the damn rain keeps freezing...

I 'recycle' my presents. If I get a pressie that I am not too fond of, I dish it out next birthday or Xmas to someone else

I have just bought Xmas 2008 cards and wrap for 1/2 price in Boots

I text or email rather than phone people on their mobile

same here, i tend to recycle my presents. xmas cards i'm waiting for them to go down even further in the sales....best times are just before they are due to finish.
  • I walk to work.
    I bring a packed lunch.
I cut my own hair (I'm bald anyway so it's a Phil Mitchel look)
    I wash my own car.

All these things are no hardship and save a fair bit.

WM goes on when low rate electric starts at night
TD goes on before low rate electric stops in morning
We are OAPs so free local bus fares saving fuel and parking fees.
Central Heating is on lowest comfortable setting.
We never use land line to phone mobiles or high cost numbers.
We have low energy bulbs in all light fittings.
We use the shower, never the bath.
We halve the washing power for each load.
We always use the fridge stuff up first before taking anything out of the freezer or cupboards.
We cut TD fabric conditioner sheets in half.
We try to use up all the bread from a loaf making bread/bread and butter puddings with any stale bread.
We have cut down on portion size at meals.
We don't use air fresheners in loo. We light a candle for a few minutes to get rid of any pong. eek!!
Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot.

I also always take my own lunch to work and only drink water while I'm there which I get from the free water cooler.

Can't think of anymore, but I'm sure there are others... I think he despairs of me :rotfl:

They're hardly 'out there' wacky things though, just sensible things the majority of people do, no idea why he would despair about that...

I use a local college for cheap haircuts and use a comparison website (cost me approx £5 per year) to check out the BOGOFFs etc before I shop.
I also pick up coins and do daily clicks on Pigsback for the Boots vouchers.
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)
