I intend to use the stuff i get in sales (started yesterday with lakeland online) to do birthday baskets and once they are finished i will use summer sales and bogof etc offers the rest of the year for christmas.

the magazine subscriptions i sent this year using tescos clubcard vouchers seemed to go down well so i will continue to save points for next year :)

    same here :D

once my sons' bdays are over in april & may i start putting stuff away for xmas

well thats always the plan anyway :rotfl:

just ordered a few bits from argos in the sale, for various bdays and also a pirates of the caribbean MP3 player for sons bday from currys

so thats a few more things put away :)

I will do next year as i did this year......

This year i went to woolworths and argos mid-December, I got everything for the boys from these two shops (except one book from borders) it was all half price or bogof, so what should of cost me around £300 actually cost me £152. as for friends and family, we have all come to an agreement friends we only buy for the kiddies not each other and a maximum of £10 each child. Family I waited until christmas eve and the chemist I work in reduces all it's toiletry gifts by 30% so I did my brother, sister and mum from this.

Next year i will do the same, I find that if I shop throughout the year
    1 - I spend more
2 - Peole get themselves the same items
3 - if it is clothes they may change size or style, but gifts are unable to be returned as not in the 30day return policy etc
4 - I end up using up valuable storage space and I get sick of looking at the same presents day in day out, I also start to question whetehr the present is atually suitable for the person...

So I am reverting to my old ways of last minute buys....this also means that whatever little money i have in december is what gets spent, and thats it.

  • A kind MSE'r gave me a spreadsheet that i have found invaluable and don't mind sending to anyone who wants a copy. Its Excel but very easy to use. Keeps count of all the prices/gifts/people and even has a birthday calender thingy!
SugarhunnyI'd really appreciate it if you could send me the spreadsheet. I keep a list of everything but a spreadsheet would be far better.
    Thanks so much

Xmas Cards and crackers all bought & have enough wrapping paper anyway - total cost £6.46 + 250 WHS points, instead of £17.96.

I tend to do the Xmas list once the summer sale starts as most of our birthdays are in the first half of the year.

I have bought 3 birthday gifts and a mothers day pressie (for fussy MiL) total cost £18 instead of £57.48. I already had several birthday presents - plus a few I have 're-cycled' :D - in the box.

I shall be going to the card outlet soon to choose the birthday / occasion cards for the year: an hour of agony but a huge time saver!

This year I am going to keep a proper list of costs etc so I can keep on the straight and narrow.
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.

I have been sizing up all my christmas cards to see what can be recycled into other cards and what can be used as gift tags (even my gift tags have been recycled!).:D

Oooh, Horace, do you make new Christmas cards out of your old ones? I was looking at our cards today, and thinking I could do that - do you use just the old card, or do you use the Christmas papers etc you can buy in craft shops as well? I was just about to start a thread asking how to do this - well, for some ideas really.

Any hints or tips would be appreciated!

I have got one Christmas present for next year so far - I normally get a lot of toys etc in the Boots summer sale (I have quite a few nephews and nieces to buy for), I don't tend to get much in the January sales, but I am always on the look out for bargains.

Boots have a pasta maker in their sale for £9.00 - may be that one. They had lots of them in our store still left.

Yes that's where I got it from. :D I wanted it last December/January but was holding out for the 75% off. Needless to say there was none left so this year I quickly went to Boots on Boxing day.
