Santander £185 Switch Offer: 18/03/24

Just applied. I probably have an account with them (savings) after they had that market leading offer at some point but they asked for documents I posted and never heard from them nor could login. Pointless. They’ve recognised I have some sort of relationship so need to fill in a paper form and send photocopies of ID. So insanely old fashioned, I despise these banks, but I’ve done it all and posting it today.Doubt I’ll hear from them (they’re meant to send login details or my existing access will work, not that I have it to my knowledge) but will wait a week or two and see if I can login to the app and see the account.Despise Santander but doing it for the £185 and £25 TCB.1

I've got a Santander 123Lite account.
I've never had a switch bonus from Santander.
I have a burner account ready to switch.
Can I get the £185 switch bonus? I'm confused!0 -

I'm confused! If you've never received an incentive before then yes, but as a 123lite account isn't included in the promotion, you'd have to open a new eligible account with Santander and input your burner account details during the application for switching. When the new account is open it should just show up in the same account as your other one assuming the same details are used, as it'll pick up you're an existing customer.1 -

I think you'd only have to go to a branch if you wanted to swap your current 123 account to an edge account and then start a switch to that? If you're just making a new edge account you should be able to do everything online and put your burner account information in when it asks on the online application form.

It makes the most sense for continuity, as I'd assume you'd keep your account number/direct debits/standing orders etc from the 123 account if you just change it to an edge one.

I have not seen anybody else anywhere ask that question and I have not seen it described other than ... "Pay at least £1,500 into your Santander account. This can be either by one or more deposits." I think that by using the words 'pay' and 'deposit' they imply from an external source.
What do we know? ... many premium bank accounts (including Santander ones) that require a minimum monthly pay in, preclude internal transfers. In the 'Switcher' T&Cs they don't like any funny business "We reserve the right to not make the payment if we suspect the switcher offer is being abused."
I am going to 'pay in' 3 x £500 from another bank (and then out), after all it's a one-off.0 -

Name any bank and you'll probably find someone on here who's had a blocked payment from them. I've had blocked payments from HSBC, Virgin Money and Halifax in 2022, I seem to recall there was an entire thread on here at one point about people getting blocked payments from Santander, I'm pretty sure I've seen someone else mention they've had payments from FD blocked not so long back, the list goes on.
If you avoided making payments from every bank that blocked payments you'd have to avoid all banks, no matter which bank you make the deposits from there will be a risk of the payment getting blocked so I would just make the deposit from whichever account is the most convenient and have done with it.
I had the £160 Santander offer a while back so am ineligible for this offer but if I were eligible I'd have no issues with making the deposits into Santander from Co-op or indeed any other bank that I have an account with.
