I’m making the point they are not getting as many many switchers as they could do, some of whom may be sticky, by adopting the most restrictive switching criteria.

Santander need to learn they can’t be too sniffy with disqualifying previous switchers. I switched over 5 years ago to them, and would consider switching back to them and staying with their Edge account. But won’t if they won’t pay me the bonus. They need to update their world view: switching every few years is the new norm

The norm is to have a bank account and never change it. They're entitled to define whatever terms they like.

I'd be interested to hear if any previous switchers receive the bonus opening a new account.

Had one just over two years ago. Today was accepted for a new eligible account with no hassle and open arms. Hopes not too high though, since on their welcome e-mail 5 mins ago my name was preceded with one of those funny titles Santander lets you choose from (and I was tempted 2 years ago!). So they DO remember me, whether they remember they gave me a bonus remains to be seen.

Already with Santander, not had a switch offer, not got edge current or edge saver.😏

Surely you all don't expect to keep getting switch bonuses?, there's only a certain number of banks/building societies that ever do them 🤣

Great, been waiting for the Santander switch bribe.

This will take my switching bonus total since I started in November '23 to £1735. Nice.

I have been with Santander for years but haven't had any incentives from them so I'm planning on giving it a try, however the website is saying that current customers have to do the switch in branch which seems bizarre.
Is this so that a staff member can review one's existing accounts with Santander and highlight how you never set up direct debits or paid a monthly fee on your Edge account (yet still qualified for the saver account earning 7% interests on balances up to £4,000)?

Realistically, they don't want serial switchers who want the cash, will never use the account and will leave again having cost them money. So yeah, some of the ones who are sticky would be ideal - from a new pool of potential customers, not the people on here who are only out to milk cash (myself included!)

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

    That's not what it's saying.
You have to do it in branch if you want to switch into an existing Santander account. You can open a new account with them online as an existing customer without having to visit a branch.
  • I’ve opened an account and initiated the switch. They’re asking me to post them a completed personal details form and copy of my passport despite me having an ISA, credit card and an Easy Access Account 😤

As my 123 Account ( my main bank account for about 17 years )  doesn’t qualify I’ve opened an Everyday Current Account via Quidco. The new account was there in my Santander App immediately and paid in £1500 and will leave it there for a few days just to be sure. I have created an extra Chase account and used that as a burner account to switch into the new Santander account. I have also changed all my credit card Direct Debits to the new Santander account… just a waiting game now.

i think this is now the last bank I can get a switching deal from as have exhausted all the others…. Will need a new hobby lol.
    Best Regards,
