    Hi charleybabes,

I've made that recipe before and haven't had any problems with it....did you roll it out thin enough?

I'll add this thread into the pizza base thread to see if anyone there has any suggestions.

Pre heated oven? On a fairly high shelf?

Just a thought - was your sauce quite thin? Could ot have been the liquid making the base soggy?

Don't feel insulted by these questions, honest :) I'm just trying to work out why it didn't work for you. I honestly thought the recipe was bullet proof - so if we can find the answer I'll edit the original post to let people know.

  • well last night i was making my home made pizza and wedges .

i used the lazy pizza base recipe from here and it didnt work... TWICE!!!

in the end we scraped off the topping ( which was gorgeous and hm!) and put it onto white bread toast !!

the first time i assumed it was because id used plain flour instead of sr.. but then i used sr flour the next time and it just didnt cook!!

im thinking that perhaps instead of cooking it all in one go with the topping and everything on, that i should bake the base first and then put the topping on later and bung it back in the oven...but then i dont want the base to burn then:eek:

im thinking maybe i should buy the ready made bases :D

Just wondering what exactly went wrong? Was it burnt? soggy?

I know I was surprised when I realised that you had to have the oven on the hottest possible setting and really make sure it's thoroughly heated before you use it...apparently real pizza ovens go up to about 500 degs!!
  • hi there

it wasnt burnt.. it just didnt cook.. !!

the topping was cooked but the bottom wasnt touched, its a mystery !!!!!!!!!
  • Did you preheat whatever you cooked it on? I know with pizza stones they have to be piping hot so that it cooks through...might be the same with a tray or whatever?

It's got me mystified all right - I've made dozens of lazy pizzas and never had a problem.

I really wish we could work it out - just to make sure that nobody runs into whatever trouble it was.

I just use a normal oven tray and don't preheat it because, being lazy, I actually roll out the pizza on the tray.

  • For mini pizzas for the kids, I use pitta bread as a base.

I reduce a tin of tomatoes down with some crushed garlic & herbs in for the topping, and add grated or thinly sliced cheese.

Of course, you can also add whatever else you like, ham, olives peppers etc.

I keep packs of pitta in the freezer & usually have a pot of the sauce in the fridge. You can put the topping directly onto the frozen pitta bread and then it only takes about 10 mins to cook. So simple, the kids can even do it themselves!
  • The way i make pizza base it to buy a big stottie out of asda you can get 4 large for a £1!
I then cut em in half chuck on my ingredients ie tom sauce ham mushrooms etc then place in oven there really yummy and very cheap just thought id share it also my daughter really enjoys helping me make them and she always adds smiley faces etc to them with hair its quite fun!
