Well done for trying to keep yourself busy. It is much better to get out and try and do something rather than reading all the doom and gloom on google.
He is in the right place with everyone doing all they can for him.

Try to make sure you get something to eat, if you can't eat much get yourself a complan drink. Will carry you through this tiring time a bit and may be easier to get down.
All best wishes to you and yours. We are one big force here thinking of Rick and sending him nothing but positive thoughts. X

Thank you for finding the time to keep us all updated here.

You have gave yourself the right advice, DON'T google anything, they are the worst case scenarioes (sp) most of the time. I learnt this in the most stressful way.

So pleased to hear that things are going in the right direction. Every bit of positive news is a few great steps forward! You should all be so proud of him. He is in the best possible hands and although you all worry, it is best that he is where the medics are keeping a very close eye on him for any change, as opposed to being on your average ward.

I will keep thinking of you all. Hugs again!((((((((HUGS)))))))))

Pleased to hear he's on the right track to getting better. It's a slow process but his body needs time to get over the shock of what it's just been through.

    You're all in my thoughts,

    update
had a roller coaster of an afternoon - we went to pick Ricks sister up (age 16)and took her into town shopping then took her home and did their laundry.
my niece and i went to hospital to be greeted by smiles from parents - this was to be short lived. Rick went back into surgery to repair a leakage and came out fine, when he was with his mum he was moving his toes in response to her which was a good sign as he is still in a coma.
half an hour later the ICU sister came in to explain that Rick had a massive blood clot on his lung and now his condition is life threatening and they were unable to
stabilise his oxygen intake BUT they were working very hard on him.
almost 3 hours later with brilliant help of the medical team physios etc they have managed to suction out the massive clot and his oxygen level is almost that of a healthy person.

for the first time he has been classed as stable now (although that may change again).
Becca and i are back at home now - were going to have steak and chips. i took a large picnic to the hospital so i know that Ricks parents have all been fed.
we cant do anything else so i have challenged myself as organiser of feeding them all to maintain good health.
i spoke to ricks Girlfriend of 6 months who is devastated of course, and cannot attend hospital because of their policy of immediate family only (which is the right thing). we couldnt even see him this afternoon because of his condition
    .
i was chatting to becca on the way home- not being able to hold his hand, stroke his hair or kiss him is really hard to come to terms with. of course the only thing that we can do is tell him we love him, we're hoping in the next few days that we can do this, we are a naturally touchy family and hugs and kisses are the norm.

Becca is going to have a read of this thread now as she cannot believe all the best wishes that we have received from you lovely people - it really is helpful in focusing on the positives and keeping our chins up.

Can't even begin to understand how traumatic that must have been to go through today. He knows you love him, and that you all are there. Hope that the news continues to be positive going forward and thanks for keepng us updated, it must be really hard.

What a day you must have all had and poor Rick :(, but he just keeps proving to us all that he is a fighter!
Glad to hear that he is stable again. It is par for the course that there will be good times and bad times during his recovery.
Like I said, he is in the best possible hands :) It is best that you leave him to rest, he needs all his energy to fight this. He will know how much you all care, this is probably why he is fighting this so admirably.
I will keep praying for you all, glad that the good news keeps coming.

  • Thanks for the update. I've been in tears reading your last post. Rick really is in the best place and it does sound like he is on the road to recovery. You sound like a lovely family - our family is very touchy too and always telling each other how much we love each other. I can't imagine what you are all going through but I will continue to pray that Rick continues improving. Lots of love xxxxxxxx.
