listoflists said:Might not be the same thing as Mr Cheery but after I had one of my teeth extracted I got dry socket, which got more painful several days after the tooth was out. The dentist packed it with something a bit clove tasting and it got better quite quickly after that. Toothache is miserable (but then I realise you know that after years of teeth woes!) Hope he soon gets sorted and you have a good mini break too5

Really hope Mr Cheery’s tooth is feeling better this morning…. Very much doubt there’ll be any bank holiday service from a dentist (have been there!).Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Would soluble aspirin swilled over the extraction site help?

I'd be tempted to phone 111. They will be able to offer advice and/or identify where help may be available today.#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3663

Thank you all xx
Our dentist's answerphone says to ring their sister practice. Their sister practice helpfully just has a message saying 'we are closed' 🙄 Rang 111 - they gave us a number which is presumably our own county's out of hours service - I've rung several times, and at one point was on hold for 45 mins before it automatically cut me off, and I've still not spoken to anyone. Even tried a couple of private dentists, but just been sitting supposedly in a queue until I've been automatically cut off.
He's swilling with salt water, as advised. Asprin was advised against, but that may have just been initially, will check. NHS111 sent a link to an advice sheet, which said helpful things like 'chew on the other side of your mouth' and 'see your dentist for treatment of toothache' (we're trying!!)
Anyway, I'm giving up for now, and going out to get soft food. He's not eating much, and taking lots of tablets, so need to get a bit of food in him. I'll keep trying the number 111 gave us, but I'm not actually convinced it's open 🙄 and even if it is, I can't imagine we'll get anything now 🙄 So he might just have to deal with it til our own dentist is open again tomorrow.
What a fiasco! I suppose we should be grateful we at least have a dentist 🙄3 -
I always used to keep oil of cloves in the medicine cabinet for toothache. Might be worth see if you can get some - there will probably be a pharmacy open somewhere - there's usually an emergency one around. Could even try a supermarket although I think you've probably got the same problem as me in that you don't have a local one and have to drive to one!

Ha, yes, definitely need to drive to anywhere, but I've had to do that anyway. We've got some, I suggested it yesterday but the gum was so tender he was reluctant to put it on 🙄3

Would he be able to cope with some on a cotton bud to dab on it or even on a cotton wool ball as wouldn't need to stay there? Sometimes just that tiny bit can help!1

I've picked up some numbing gel from the chemist so hopefully that will do the trick. He's had a sleep but it's up now - I'm trying to tidy the kitchen and put the shopping away before he goes for a nap and I need to be quiet again!
Is giving me a nice rest though - weather isn't really good enough to want to sit outside so I've just been lying around finishing a library book. Will get on with some scything though once this shopping is away, and I might get yesterday's washing out on the line to finish drying.6 -
Well, apparently the gel was 'useless' but despite saying the pain is no better, he is at least out of bed and sitting upright, which is an improvement on earlier today 🙄 Let's hope tomorrow's attempt to contact the dentist goes better than today's... 🙄
I've felt a bit dreary and useless myself today, but despite lots of periods of sitting about, I have done a few things
* quick trip to town for supplies
* two rows of scything (first time I've done two rows in a day this year - that's two full hours, and I certainly feel it!)
* cooked 7 portions of granola, 4 of broccoli and mushroom bake, and 4 of another breakfast recipe. The 4 lots of breakfast, plus 2 of the broccoli bake, can go in the freezer for when I'm back at work. The other two, plus some of the granola, can come with me on my adventure, meaning I'll only have to buy lunches.
* argued with the IPL machine for an hour or so. I'm doing it in the highest setting, which means the flashes are r--e--a--l--l--y s----l-----o------w 😂😂
That's it, doesn't feel like much but I'm exhausted 😮
Tomorrow will likely be a trip to emergency dentist, I hope (unless there's been a miraculous recovery overnight, which I doubt). Aside from that I want to pack, and get the financial stuff ticked off my list before I go away.
Oh, I forgot to mention, I got a yougov survey the other day - only 135 points left to payout 😃 which will probably take til about Christmas now 🙄😂9
