Cheery - I can see your point (and tmv expressed the same viewpoint) about 'not requiring another spendy weekend in the near future, but you work so hard to keep to budgets and live 'lightly' or frugally most of the time - surely you can cut yourself some slack? Spendiness only becomes an issue when you routinely go over budget - not when you have a blow out weekend once in a while. It sounds like you had a wonderful weekend - and tmv is right, eating out really has shot up in price, and with the best will in the world, and irrespective of who cooks at home; it's 'time off' from the norm - not the opportunity to do the same, but in a different kitchen.
Hope your pea soup is yummy!

@Greying_Pilgrim - wise words my luv - we too were beating ourselves up over a 'spensive anniversary weekend - we've come to the conclusion that we both deserve to celebrate making it to 19 years without doing the other in! Partnership is a complicated thing, is it not?4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! (24 OCT 2016)(With heartfelt thanks to those who have gone before us & their indubitable generosity.)...and now I have a mortgage! You're right, of course, and there were definitely some elements of the weekend that we wouldn't have spent on if it were just the two of us - about £70 on drinks in a bar on ONE NIGHT for a start 😮😮. We very, very rarely drink while out so were quite shocked at the prices. Although it was a kind of private venue that night, and the food was provided, so overall if we'd paid for food it might have been a similar cost. We were both drinking spirits which didn't help 😬
Anyway, we had a lovely old time and don't regret a thing 😊
Soup is nice - will probably better when the split peas are even more cooked so I'm having some now but giving the rest a blast of heat then it can go back in the hay box.
Washing is outside, flute has been practiced, and I'm going to eat dinner on the patio before planning the not-very-much-time I've got left 😬😂8 -
Well,I'm not even going to go back to that ridiculous list 😬 Needless to say, I haven't even done half of it 😂😂 But I did bring the washing back in, sweep and mop the kitchen and dining room, had a quick wipe down/freshen up of flat surfaces, and changed the bed sheets.
Not packed, but everything I want to take is clean and ready, and I'm only staying away for 2 nights.
Tomorrow, need a shower (new shampoo! 😃) and cut/paint nails before work, throw stuff in bags at lunchtime, and be ready to go straight from counselling - if I come back home at 6pm after that there will be SO much faffing and I'll never get to my friend's house 😬8 -
I’m glad you are not beating yourself up about your weekend. You work hard, budget nearly all of the time, life would be pretty bleak without letting go occasionally for most of us, it’s what helps us get through everything else I think3

@Cheery_Daff - reevaluating priorities is always a good thing! - personally rest always manages to make it's way to the top of my list, followed closely by coffee & food 🤣4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! I think I needed to read some of this stuff, having just returned from the second of two not-cheap holidays, and now be reflecting on an upcoming trip out for a pal's birthday, our own wedding anniversary and a trip next month for a meeting which will involve an overnight stay...As said - we do work hard to keep costs down don't we, and sometimes there are things out there that are worth celebrating even if they DO cost a bit of extra cash. If we were merrily hiding heads in the sand, singly "la la la" and wielding the credit card with gay abandon, then that would be rather different, but we're really not, and nor are we doing these things and taking them for granted. So yes, some slack being cut is sometimes very worthwhile - and I suspect also helps us to re-focus and get stuck in to the next phase of MSE-ness!
Oh and I am VERY jealous of your shampoo and conditioner bargains - well spotted - and pounced on!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

You're all right, of course!
In MSE news today, realised the correct amount has FINALLY been refunded to our LPG account, but not transferred to the bank account 🙄 I've requested it through the website rather than waiting for the guy in the complaints team to sort it out but won't be holding my breath 🙄
In other news, work hasn't been following MSE principles and is now on a severe debt busting mission 🙄 Looking for people to leave voluntarily again (which i won't be) but I suspect there will also be more sweeping cuts, we'll see.
Most immediate effect on me is that they have 'postponed' promotions 🙄 Understandable - but it would have been nice if they'd done it BEFORE we all filled the darn forms in.
Hey ho. 5 days off now!10 -

Good news on the correct refund - we'll raise virtual mugs of tea when it wends it's way back your bank account 😁
Hope you get lots of restorative 'down time' over the long weekend.
