Cheery - I can see your point (and tmv expressed the same viewpoint) about 'not requiring another spendy weekend in the near future, but you work so hard to keep to budgets and live 'lightly' or frugally most of the time - surely you can cut yourself some slack?  Spendiness only becomes an issue when you routinely go over budget - not when you have a blow out weekend once in a while.  It sounds like you had a wonderful weekend - and tmv is right, eating out really has shot up in price, and with the best will in the world, and irrespective of who cooks at home; it's 'time off' from the norm - not the opportunity to do the same, but in a different kitchen.

Hope your pea soup is yummy!

@Greying_Pilgrim - wise words my luv - we too were beating ourselves up over a 'spensive anniversary weekend - we've come to the conclusion that we both deserve to celebrate making it to 19 years without doing the other in! Partnership is a complicated thing, is it not?

I’m glad you are not beating yourself up about your weekend. You work hard, budget nearly all of the time, life would be pretty bleak without letting go occasionally for most of us, it’s what helps us get through everything else I think
