Glad your plumber has been to sort your knob issue out anyway
hope Mr CD Snr can get home soon, it all sounds exhausting!DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Right. That's enough filth for a Sunday 😁
Got quite a lot done yesterday. No sign of the roofers 🙄 but I got another wall plastered (the final one, for now at least), plus some painting, and the Mr C felt more mobile so I went to collect him and we laid the laminate in one of the rooms, then went to visit friends for the evening.
Not such an early start, just having breakfast. Going to finish the laminate in the doorway today then not sure if we're going to do the second floor, or crack on with painting and various other jobs. Might depend on Mr C's back.
My last day today. I'm heading back to work in the morning, won't be back until Thursday. Not decided how long he's staying on for, again might depend on his back, we'll see...5 -
So. No sign of the roofers yesterday, and Mr C's back was still bad in the morning, so I abandoned the flooring and started filling holes and painting instead. Got 2 coats on one bedroom wall, and one coat on two others, plus patched all the (many) holes in the kitchen. Mr C arrived later and shifted most of the stuff out of the living room, and fitted the kitchen work top, and we had a good general tidy up of the building site, so we're in a good position to make a start when we're back.
Just arrived home, first time since Thursday morning. Delighted to report the boiler is fixed (or seems to be - proof will be running a bath later) and the invoice is only £90.
In other kind of MSE news, while I was in a rush trying to set up Mr C Snr with the rugby the other day, I found a suggestion that he might have been able to watch it through a bookie website that I had an account with, but you couldn't view without having put a bet on in the last x days. I wanged a fiver on some random thing (the game had already started and they were all wittering at me), then forgot because we managed to get a month subscription through a proper channel. Anyway, my bet won £20 😂 still no idea what I bet on 😂
Two nights at home now, then back straight from work on Wednesday, although I may argue for going Thursday morning, I really want to do some washing and take a breath first 🙄 Friends will be back in their house when we get there - nice to see them but it'll be less peaceful than having it to ourselves!
MUST sort out the car insurance tonight (or just let it roll over...) I do want to check the mileage though as I suspect we've been doing more than we officially said with all this nonsense - would have to ring them to change that though, so I might actually just go with someone else instead. We'll see. I'll give it an hour.
But first I have to do some work!
Oh, and I need to ring the bloody garage. I'm almost embarrassed about my stupid car, although I realise that really they should be embarrassed at not being able to fix it. Especially as we waited a fortnight for the electrical engineer to come back from holiday and actually I don't think he's even looked at it...
Right, garage, tea, work, bath, bed.9 -
Ha, best laid plans...
I was home for about an hour, and, having realised I'd left my laptop at work, and arranged for Mr C to collect it on his way past, I was just running a bath (boiler is seemingly NOT properly fixed, but that's a story for another day 🙄)
Frantic phone call from Mr C - for a variety of reasons Mr C Snr will be leaving the care home the next day (Tuesday - this was 4 30pm Monday afternoon) 😱 Mr C turned straight round, I finished my tepid bath, grabbed some clean underwear, and retraced my 100 miles 😭
What a palaver. I won't go into the details of course, but suffice to say there have been lots of phone calls, stern words, and we have stumped up several hundred quid for him to stay put til Saturday. Our friends are SO very kind in letting us stay in their house - they're back themselves now but we're still staying, it is SUCH a blessing, I am so thankful.
And so we are laying laminate floors and painting and cleaning mould from everywhere and hoovering and more painting and trying desperately to find charity shop furniture, pans etc. I've had to take the week off work (although I did end up staying up til midnight the other day to get a particular work deadline met).
I am exhausted. Mr C's back is playing up. We've been sleeping on an airbed since last Thursday, and will be here til this coming Sunday at least.
So tired. Utterly filthy - I grabbed clean underwear but no clean clothes, thinking I'd be back at work on Wednesday, so I've been doing DIY in the same clothes since last Thursday evening, and have ONE spare set that I'm changing into in the evening for sanity's sake.
We are on the case with various bits of paperwork, and there is obviously plenty going on behind the scenes that I won't mention here (so if you do give me any advice please excuse me if I don't respond - chances are things are already in motion and I'm just not sharing).
Anyway, here we are. I've been here for the last few hours myself while Mr C visits his dad, and I've got far more done than when other people are in the house... 😂
Two days to go. I feel like I'm on Challenge Anneka 😂11 -
