Thanks all 😊
I got some stuff done last night but not everything, but that's ok. Slept well and just had a leisurely brunch in a supermarket cafe (can you call it brunch at 2pm??) 😂
Got a couple of minor admin things ticked off
✅ booked Tyres on the Drive for Monday. Weather is looking a little ropey but hopefully they'll see that and come up into the hills first... (or probably just cancel altogether...). Still, the ball is rolling, and the tyres aren't bald, they're just on the edge and i wanted them changed before the bad weather. We have all season tyres on all year, so don't worry if I have to do the last ungritted lanes on the way home from work.
✅ booked festive event for when my mum is here
Tried (again) to log back into leisure centre app - they changed provider and I haven't been able to log in. I can now log in, it says they have a membership linked to my email address - but it won't let me link to it, so I can't book anything 🙄 So I'll have to ring later, or pop in. Very annoying.
Lots more little life admin things on the list but not today.9 -
YAWN.
Bought a small sofa in a charity shop yesterday for £30, but we only had the small car with us, so planned to go back today. Went outside this morning- big car has a puncture 🙄
Tyres on the Drive is coming tomorrow to change 2 tyres on the little car. Considered adding the big car on, but Mr C was meant to be going to his dad's. He's now cancelled that - but in the meantime I was on the phone to somewhere local that can do it this afternoon. Bad weather due tomorrow and I suspect TYTD may cancel, and I don't want to be left without 2 working cars.
Anyway, boring story 😂 but we are going back to the place we went yesterday, in the rain this time, and hopefully by the time we get home we'll have a fully functional car and a new sofa. Which is replacing an old chaise - not decided if we're keeping it elsewhere, but for now it's going in my study until we find a suitable sofa bed.
All change! And it's ruined my afternoon batch cooking plans! 😂8 -
My afternoon cooking plans have been derailed too Cheery, although for more sociable reasons. However, for you it’s definitely important to have a fully functioning car ahead of the weather arriving!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Ooh, ditching plans for sociableness is always more fun! 😊
Sofa is in the car 😊 It's like a cafe bucket style chair, but two seater. Really light and with a low back so it'll go nicely in front of the window. I'm going to upholster as it's leathery - it'll do for now but I'd rather it was soft fabric.
Tyre place was cheerful, and had a row of chairs so we could wait. Improvement on usual garage where I have to drop the car off for the day while I go to work. £60 for one, so also improvement on TOYD which, while convenient, isn't super cheap. So if they cancel because of the weather tomorrow, I might just cancel them back and go there instead... Definitely a good future option, and only about 20 mins from home too, always a bonus 😊5 -
Had a nicely domesticated evening and am now pleasantly tired 😊
We relocated the chaise to my study, and the new sofa to the living room, all good.
Fitted a new waste trap under the bathroom sink yesterday - touch wood that seems to have fixed the leak, so I've shoved everything back in the cupboard. Could do with sorting, but then so could everything else so it can wait its turn 🙄
I spent some time pottering in the craft room. It also doubles as spare bedroom and wardrobe/dressing room so is inclined to become a bit of a dumping round, and it's currently impossible to do anything crafty in there. Found some small stuff to get rid of, and tackled a coat I'd put aside to send to the charity shop - didn't want to send with a ripped lining, so I've sewn it up and it's now in the charity bag 😊
Once the expensive electric period ended, I put the oven on and made 7 meals for in the freezer (and one for my tea) 😊 All parcelled up and cooling down ready.
Was feeling nicely domesticated but just remembered I've not hung the washing up 😂 Will do that now, and retrieve the dehumidifier from the living room.
Working at home tomorrow. Mr Cheery is out in the evening, and there's snow forecast 🙄 Won't daunt him but I don't like it. He can avoid the highest routes, and they're pretty good about clearance round here, and we do have all season tyres on both cars. Hopefully it'll wait til he gets back.
Anyway, payday tomorrow, and as I'll have the evening to myself I want to cross a few things off:
* check banks & YNAB
* ring gym to sort out not being able to log in (during day - I suspect reception will pass me off to their management company)
* got a free national trust day pass so need to figure out when and where
* need to decide and book a day for a local festive market
Hmm, pretty sure I had more things than that... they're on a list somewhere...7 -
What a palaver! Tyres guy turned up at 1.30 - first I knew was a phone call saying he couldn't find the house.
Went and retrieved him, fixed the tyres, fine. We got ready to pop into town quickly, but no - tyre guy had failed to reverse up the drive, and instead had reversed onto the lawn (ignoring the perfectly good turning space a few yards up the drive). Obviously his van was massive, front wheel drive, the grass was wet, and he'd got stuck. And then he'd proceeded to just spin his wheels for 20 minutes, digging himself in even further 🙄
Spent the best part of an hour trying to dig him out, finding things to put under his tyres, but he was proper stuck. He had no suggestions other than 'isn't there a farmer that could pull me out?' 🙄 Dont you have a recovery service that could pull you put?!
Anyway, our local farmer is lovely, and came round with the tractor. Mr Cheery was livid, and I ended up sending him inside the house - I wasn't impressed either but the guy was clearly useless and shouting wasn't getting out of the garden any quicker.
Anyway, I've had to interrupt my work, farmer had to interrupt his day, and the garden is a mess. They'll be getting a complaint, and we'll be going to the local place from now on!10 -
Oh how absolutely infuriating! And so frustrating that the damage happened now which means you will be looking at it all winter 😢
Mr KK would have reacted similarly ….
Thank goodness you have managed to find a good, local alternative.KKAs at 15.07.25:

They day's not getting better 🙄 Got home from town to find a rope tied across our lane (I assume someone moving cows earlier had forgotten about it). Then I tried earlier to change a light bulb in a wall light in the kitchen and have somehow knocked the circuit out for all the wall lights 🙄
Still. Mr C has fixed the lights (and also changed the bulbs), we've untied the rope (I assumed nobody was still moving cows in the dark but I suppose we'll find out 😂).
The day has been so disrupted I'm just going to carry on working for a while.
Mr C was meant to be out, but has decided against it because of the weather forecast - I'm glad about that as I'd rather he wasn't driving in the snow, but it does probably mean I won't get my list ticked off!4 -
