I've heard good things about that book @Prudent - just waiting for it to become available at the library!

Finished The Marriage Portrait and loved it, really recommend even if you don't like historical fiction (even though it's loosely based in fact) it's a good commentary on the perceived role of women in society.

Moved on to As Old As Time by Liz Brasswell.  It's part of the Disney Twisted Tales series which retells Disney stories with an alternative twist.  A friend bought me a box set of them and while I'm a Disney fan I absolutely hate these books 🤣🤣  This one is Beauty and the Beast and I've managed to skim read some of it because alternate chapters have been exact copies of the Disney film.  Determined to finish it and only have one more in the series before I can then give them all away.

I have now finished Ballet Shoes - sweet story and being staged at The National Theatre in London for the first time apparently.

Next up: Secrets of the Lighthouse by Santa Montefiore. Not my usual choice although I've read one of hers in the past. This was one of the 'book blind date' titles my DD got me for Christmas.

Hi, can I join in please?

I've always been a big reader, but have struggled with it in recent years due to the fact that I need to read a lot of articles etc for work. So it's find of taken some of the joy out of reading.

But I recently bought a Kindle and have been reading so much more again, it feels lovely. To find free books I generally just search for free books on Kindle. Or sometimes I buy some, which are maximum of £5.

I've just downloaded a sample of A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) by Sarah Maas, after seeing it all over Social Media. I have almost finished reading the sample and will definitely be buying the book. It's not my normal genre (I love thrillers, mysteries etc) but very enjoyable. From what I've read of the sample, it is more like a fantasy book.

I am partway through that series. It could probably win a bad sex award because some of the writing is excruciatingly bad and tending towards the much more explicit end of Mills and Boon, but if you skip through those bits,  as fantasy goes it’s okay.

Oh no, I am not keen on sex scenes in books. I'll do my best to ignore those parts. Thanks @elsien for the heads up.

Well I've fallen over to the dark side and subscribed to Kindle unlimited for a month :s
I'm a physical book gal and will always prefer a proper book, however I've fallen down the Frieda McFadden rabbit hole thanks to The works and their 3 for £6 deal.  It has worked out cheaper for me to buy 1 month of kindle unlimited than all of her books. And I can read them when I'm on holiday next week, so less weight in the case

I'm currently reading David Baldacci Mercy.  Its took me a while to get into it, but I'm there now and liking it.

I finished reading the sample of ACOTAR on my Kindle, so bought the full book on Kindle for £4.06.

I used to hate the idea of a Kindle @IrishRose12 but a lot of the time books are much cheaper on Kindle than a paperback. Although i will always prefer to read a paperback.

I do prefer actual books but was given a kindle for my 50th and it's great for holidays etc easier than trying to find room for a fortnight!  I use it most days kindle unlimited pays for itself and great for finding new authors however I do like a real book for reading in bed and will often take one on the train to avoid the sun (when we have any) glaring on the screen

I’ve heard it described as fairy p o rn, which made me laugh. Honestly though, just skip over the relevant pages. Even if you like that sort of thing it’s very repetitive.

This isn't very MSE as the books cost about £35 from Amazon, but I bought the books 1-5 of the Mind**** series. An online friend in the US told me about them as people keep talking on FB about them. I'm trying not to read any spoilers before I read them.
